Does anyone know of a quick way to convert photohsop guides into a layer (prefferably a shape layer) ? I vaguely recall some option "convert guides to layers" , but cant remember where I did see it. Can't find it anywhere. I refuse to trace every guide with a line tool. There must be some easier way.

Easiest I came up with is following:
* On top of image I made a new solid white layer. turned guide visiblity on.
* zoomed in to image so it fits on screen. in full screen mode pressed tab to get rid of all menus and panels then made a screenshot,
*pasted this into a new image and then cropped to the actual size of my image.
*duplicated my guidelayer back to the original and set blending mode to multiply.

Anyone a better suggestion?

Thanks Ron and Saverio for the links, unfortunately it's not what i'm searching for.
I mean the guides you get by clicking 'n dragging the top and left rulers in the document window.
Maybe I still just need to trace those darn guides. This takes some time but then it 'll more flexible then the steps I took in my 1st post.

If I understand what you are meaning you wan to convert the lines you drag into the viewing area into permanent lines.

I would use the horizontal and vertical one-pixel marque available by clicking and holding on the marque tool selector box. Using that tool click on the guide you want to add, the stroke it from the edit menu. You can stroke that line in any thickness you wish.

Hope that answers your delimma.

you can use the pen tool and do the same! set first and last point and right click and stroke!

Thanks for thinking with me guys... The single row and single column marque tool, cool, didn't think of that one.
I think, afterall I will stick with the line tool because this way I can create shape layers, most flexible because I can drag and move them around if necessary.

Gran, what is it you don't get from my initial method?
Though it lacks the flexibility I'm looking for, I thought it to be quite a creative method. Maybe I didn't explain all these steps properly.

My work here is done.

I'd like to point out that the Pen Tool method of drawing "hard" guide lines on their own layer is actually better than "normal" guides, because you can draw DIAGONAL guide lines too! Very handy for keeping pesky PERSPECTIVE problems under control!
