Best input device for chopping is pencil and pen.

But .. for the computer, I use a Logitech trackball and a Hanvon pen tablet.

Is there anything like a stylus that can be used directly on the monitor screen?

Logitech Trackball (I think every person that uses a regular mouse suffers a slight mental defficiency), and a Wacom tablet with lots of pressure buttons, and strips.

About that Cintiq Screen. I can see no benefit in this product.
It's a novelty item.
If you really want a novelty item that will pay returns to you for the rest of your life, invest $25 in the Futurotic 4-Way-Arouser.

No need, Alan! I too am an Apple Mouse Man. I do have a wacom tablet, but use it very rarely.

I've done some serious pondering lately, and I realized that the really GOOD choppers here (and I'm NOT putting myself in that boat) had strong backgrounds in actual ART DRAWING & ILLUSTRATION. They know how to paint, or draw, well. So they come from a place of PEN & BRUSH. A stylus is very natural to them.

Myself, I've never done the "drawing thing" so therefore the mouse is WHAT I KNOW. You can do a LOT of good work with a mousy. (though I'm now thinking about going back to night courses for this "Drawing/Ilustration" stuff as I know it will help my chopping at a pro-level)

Big Fact: it is what you are most comfortable with at any given time that works for YOU, for now. The boundary of good vs. crap is NOT in the tools, it is in the tool USER. Wink

Big Fact II : and always be open to expanding your tool box as you go through your creative life thang! Wink Having more choice in techniques/tools will always give you a better chance of doing better work. thumright

My husband has a magnifying mouse! I bought a Wacom on woot.com a while back but found it difficult to use. Any hints?
Move it around to find the most comfy position. And practise, practise, practise. To trace other images with the pen was the best training for me. I find the largest wacom hardest to use. A5Wide is best for me. Some swear to smaller boards, and some to bigger.

I had trouble lining up the monitor and the pad. Is there a trick to that? Confused Thanks for the help Exclamation
