i've been around more recently and have noticed contests have been having way less entries, and way less votes. today's win of ONLY 14 votes??!! i found that number very surprising.

when I was chopping more frequently, contests usually had more than 50 entries, winners with [edit] 50+ votes weren't unusual.... looking back at contests back then, see here Claf's Upside Down Pot won with 133 votes, 74 comments.... and as of my glance just now has 13,233 views! (soon to be more! ha!) That contest had 107 entries.

Are those days gone... or is everyone just on vacation? or taking a long break?

Guess it could just be a cycle. I had too much "life" to have PSC there for a long while.. guess others could be going thru the same thing (at the same time)

maybe you should do another 'infinite growth' gif (one of my favorite gifs!) showing your belly. or perhaps your nose, getting bigger and bigger!

Just to make things clear, 100+ votes entries have ALWAYS been unusual. I'm not really sure what you're talking about. Only 14 chops out of thousands and thousands managed to do it, and 10 out of those 14 did it during a Reunion Contest. That Claf's chop you're talking about was one of them actually.

Sure, 14 votes winner is very low. PSC have always been this way tho. Sometimes winners get around 40 votes average, the month after around 60, the one after 30. When I first joined, winners over 30 votes were one in a dozen. Then, a year after, with 30 votes you were down on page 3. Things have slowed down a lot since then and that era seems far far away...

(Also, summer is the Internet low season. Not just for PSC but for the entire net. I used to work for a big website and it was just normal business to lose 50% of our traffic during summer. There's just other things to do outside I guess... Maybe that's another reason.)

I like how you point out the single most voted upon entry PSC has ever seen. Alex made many good points.
Not only do some people take time away for summer, but lives come into play, and when low points like now arise, other people lose interest. Like everything, it goes in waves, I'm sure PSC will come back as very busy someday, when? I don't know, but I do know that it's less appealing to chop when no one else does it. On top of that, some people just lose interest because they think it's more fun to create their own works of art, instead of always working on (sometimes rather bland, sometimes awesome) source pictures.
Just my thoughts.
