In most american (and Canadian sports leagues)after the league matches are over for the year and one team ends up being proclaimed the league champion (like here in footbal). It does'nt end there. They have eliminatory playoffs (usually the best of 5 or seven games) between the top teams in the various divisions or conferences leading up to a final round series as in the NBA,the the Stanley Cup final in the NHL and the World Serties of baseball. In football the final champions of each of the two conferences (AFC and NFC) play off in a climaxing grand final match called the Super Bowl to lay claim to being the overall champion and best football team in "the world" that year.In a way it is like the champions league final match (look out for Barcelona again this year ) here in Europe but the eliminatory competitions are within one country instead of between various nations.Hope that has made you more confused than you were before .

Well Spain is bi-polar.It's almost a law that you have to either support Real Madrid or Barcelona.Even if you live in Sevilla and your team is Sevilla you still have to take sides with the two powerhouses of the FEF.Since I lived in Canada most of my younger life (I played a lot of ice hockey and the Toronto Maple Leafs were my team) am not a futbol fanatic and can get away with not taking sides in the futbol war here.I ususlly support the team that deserves my support any given season.I liked Real Madrid when they had a great team a few years back (Zidane,Figo,Roberto Carlos,Raul etc.).They rocked! Now Barcelonsa is such a pleasure to watch play. They have a fantastic team for the last few years (with Pep Guardiola). As a matter of fact I think 7 or 8 of the Spanish world cup champions play for Barcelona. On top of that they have Messi who is unbelievable.Great team.So I back them now.BTW do you know that the three candidates for the golden ball this year...Messi,Iniesta and Xavi (all for Barcelona btw) and Villa as well,I believe, are all around 1,70 meters in height. You don't have to be big to be great at futbol. Not like American football. These guys would be eaten for breakfast and washed down with a glass of whiskey over there .And good luck to Borussia this year. It's good to have more than the same two teams always winning like here in Spain. It's always Real or Barca. It would be nice to see Sevilla (from where I'm from in Andalucia)win it here for a change. But the cups always follow the bucks .

Yeah well we were in Krakow, so we visited the match...it was ok, not the best of football and the stadium was half finished (one side was all empty)
Yeah Maaskant is doing ok, he coached the team from my home town and they are doing better as well since he left
