Just thought I would send a message of shock and horro at the results of Hurricane Katrina...
All my love and thoughts are with the people involved in this terrible natural disaster, and I hop all our members are ok.
Lets all hope the disaster isnt as bad as it is seeming on news reports.
All the best to everyone

The unfortunate reality is that it's probably much worse.
And even scarier, if Katrina hadn't blown about 12 miles to the East just before landfall, New Orleans may very well have been wiped off the map entirely.
I just can't imagine what it would be like to go through a disaster like that.

I am sad to say if you never visited the Big Easy you probably never will now. Great city, great food, and a party town unlike no other. IIt's almost like a biblical tale Sodom and Gomorrah.
We are Canadians and have believe it or not the best water purifications systems in the world and offered to help. A hole W said he rather go it alone. I guess his creationist ass is dry where he is sitting sipping JD. Only people left there are the poor and the racially profiled. Apparently Fred Flintstone of presidents is OK with that. Shame on him, shame on the likes of him. Pity the good americans.
Many years ago a Canadian journalist wrote this:

That is the US that I know, not what we are being fed today.
God bless America

On a personal note....the local fire station in our neighborhood here on the west side of houston has about 40 people sleeping there. Many of them on cots or beds. A number of co-workers and i went to the local grocery store and bought some food, drinks, and other stuff. We drove over there today and walked up to the station and gave it to the fire chief. We talked with a couple of families who are from baton rouge and new orleans. We were in tears just listening to them talk about what they have to deal with. A few of us went back and got gift cards for walmart and kroger so that if there was anything else we didnt bring...it would help.
After talking to them...i feel we should do more one on one helping of families....not just give money to red cross. It takes forever for the red cross and other organizations to get those funds appropriated. Houston as well as the communities up and down the coast need to adopt a family or at least give your time to listen and spend time with them. It means alot to them.

seamusoisin,
It's troubling, disgusting that you would use
the suffering of these people to use as a chance
for you to spout off your politics.
Can you just give us a little break to deal with this?

This has nothing to do with politics ScionShade. Im just relating what we did today and how it has effected me. Houston is very much having to deal with the hundreds of thousands of people and families that have come here seeking shelter and food. Im sorry you find it depressing. But it hits close to home for us.

HA! DB- I was talking to Shamus--
NO-- I think what you said was great. I'm happy for
you that you found an oppurtunity to be involved in some way--
it's kind of hard sitting back on your hands and not
being able to do something.

Believe me I am not political, don't like the politicals in Canada. Maybe I've just been around longer than you, doesn't make me smarter just more wary of politicians. Do not mean to offend, just fed up with the left/right who seem to know what is good for me you and the person next to us, and who can't seem to handle their own reponsibility. I don't see to many people of affluence out there on CNN, in the Big Easy mainly people of poverty, who speaks for them, apparently not too manny. Anywayyoung man hold onto your young one and breathe deeply., apparently the US can go it alone and needs no help
from any other country according to GWB.
Are we so sure
