I know all the Scavenger Hunt pirating of other forums was intended in "good fun," but I also know that some of us were, shall we say, less "enthused" than others about it. Likewise, some of us are not as "shy" as others about expressing our opinions. The resulting brouhaha stirred up by at least one raiding party has piqued my curiosity. How popular IS pirating other forums? Please take a moment to answer this poll. And if you do choose to post a reply in addition to taking the poll, please do not discourage others from expressing their honest opinions, whatever they are. "To each their own," I always say. Oh, and remember that the Scavenger Hunt is over. Teammates need not continue to seem to stay in agreement with each other, and (I hope) we need not continue to worry about angering or appeasing our esteemed judges or our beloved Square. Thank you for your time. Smile

I'm really curious how my little poll gets a Google ad for "Juvenex Women Only Spa NY / For An Unforgetable Bachelorette..." Well, okay. Maybe not that curious... Wink

I don't mind replying to this. Smile

I've been a moderator on various forums throughout the years, and knuckleheads intent on causing mischief are pretty much par for the course. We wouldn't need banning and IP-blocking tools, if that were not the case. When somebody arrives on a forum I moderate and seems intent on being an asshat, my approach is to welcome them, inform them of the rules, and if they don't seem interested in following them, ban them. It's all in a day's work--just another day on the intarweb.

I'm a moderator on a board that's been the target of vicious attacks, and by that I mean huge pornographic images, pages and pages of bad language and mindless spam, and so forth. Yep, those are a bummer, but once again, about a half-hour's worth of work to undo, tops. Our pirate attacks were nothing like that, and I'm positive our Scavenger Hunt judges were not suggesting anything malicious. To me, the pirate attacks were nothing more than an internet prank. Any forum admin worth his or her salt is familiar with those sorts of pranks, and has the tools to deal with them.

Yes, we made nuisances of ourselves, but we were harmless nuisances, and it was only for a very short period of time.

I do think this is a great poll, though, and one that the organizers of the next SH should take to heart, when planning their next task list. Smile

thinkmcflythink is a weeny!!! Yuck (Or seemed to be at first, but it seems that he has caught the PSC virus and joined the ranks. If so, welcome aboard then.)
Who would be that touchy about a one time thing?
Even though I didnt get to really put my full time into the SH and help my team pirate a forum, I still saw what they posted and it was entertaining. Too bad that some people will say that a thread is "ruined" because of just some random posts. I guess that means that the threads here on PSC are fit for the toilet then... Rolling Eyes[/url]

I have to be honest - I'm not sure I agree with the idea of starting MULTIPLE threads on another site forum. I wouldn't be too pleased if some random character from another site (say, err... PhotoshopFaceOff? Razz) started SEVERAL threads all at once here on PSC.

As I recall, the previous SH asked for just one thread, but with the requirement for getting all team members to post and to involve some of the existing members of the targetted site. That task was fine and shouldn't have caused any embarrassment or offence (as far as I know, we received no complaints about that)

Ok, it could be argued "so what? the other site mods can just delete/ban if they don't like it" - but the point is also that it could create negative perceptions of PSC, and we don't want to hamper jmh's efforts at making PSC a great site by giving the impression he encourages mass "raids" on other forums!

Bottom line is - IMO, by all means have a "post a thread on another forum" element of the SH, but don't make it seem like an "attack" or an excuse for flaming/thread-bombing...

I think if its all in good fun and nothing offensive is said on the "pirated" board then there shouldn't be a problem. Very Happy

MooseBoyz used one thread on another sailing site, ran it to 100 posts and then copied the images and exited. I PMed the site administrator with an apology and explanaition and the next day our additions were removed and nothing was ever said.

I do think this sort of think is tiresome though and would go for something different if I were composing another hunt. Maybe this is an idea who's time is past. It has, after all, been done somewhat to death IMHO.

Gee I sure didn't mean to ruin anyone's fun! I was just curios is all... I'd never known Pirate talk was so popular! I hardly think that 18 votes so far (and some of those for the "fake" answers) is representative of general consensus, anyway. And this was not an official "shall we do this again" poll--this was just little ole me tryin' to get m' bearin's and m' sea legs on this new voyage! Arrr!
