Actually, it was pagans that became Christians, and also now had OTHER things to celebrate who were accommodating to the ALREADY existent holidays and
so NATURALLY they made their holidays coincide with what was already extant.
I think you could figure this stuff out on your own.
*edit8 wait a second, without having to fry my brain and do a buncha research, didn't Jesus Coincidentally resurrrect on Easter day?

Samyhaim, Easter, Winter Solstice. for those of us of european or
Middle eatern desent,We've been taking a break from life and
celebrating those days for thousands of years. It's hardwired into us.
To attack the holidyas altogether because Christians use them now is rediculous.
It has nothing to do with political correctness nor sensitivity towards other's beleifs.
It is just an attack against Christians.

LOL, good researchin' Splodge..
A few years ago, we began researching the holidays and where they originated and why we celebrate them. My wife and I decided that we weren't going to celebrate them because they were Pagan holidays. Not that everyone should do this, but it was just our personal decision. We celebrate the birth of Christ and the resurrection, but this year we don't have a christmas tree and we didn't do egg hunting, etc.
The funny thing is, our family thinks we are completely and utterly insane. "What do you mean you don't have a Christmas tree??" "You gotta have a Christmas tree! What are the kids going to do without a Christmas tree??"
I explained to them the research that we did and realizing that we are not Pagans, why celebrate Pagan holidays just because they've been "christianized"? Oh, well... So now, we're the family fruitcakes!
All is well...

the decorated tree is also a pagan icon, but the tree was an oak tree, dead in winter, but magicaly comes to life when missltoe starts growing mid winter, which also explains the significance of missltoe and christmass, but i'm sure they were doing more than kissing under the missltoe

We didn't do a Christmas tree for about four years,
specifically because we are told in the old testament not to have
Christmas trees.
Then after awhile, we were sitting around one year and talked about it.
Christmas trees are a cultural tradition now, aint nobody putting candy canes on the tree as presents for their Celtic ancestors. So now we do the tree again.
It's a rather pleasant tradition IMHO.

The Germans have a song about the Christmas tree.
I think it goes something like:
"Oh, tanned male bum,
Oh tanned male bum...
Such nicer than all pasty white!"
Something like that - my Deutch isn't very Goot!
