Funny that you'd bring it up. Guessing it can be quite lucrative if you have the right or wrong kind of neighbors.

I actually have found several awesome items in big dumpsters behind my school as well as this private lighting company. I dont go digging through trash everyday; I dont know why I looked the times I did, but each time, it was a great payoff.

Items gotten:

-An antique carousel gumball machine (that works and is in prime condition) Great decor

-Working overhead projector - sold it on ebay to a missionary for $30.00 after I got bored with it.

-Older pc crap - hey, it works...

-Nice office Chair

-Nice desk (replaced, now its in my sister's room)

Overall, if you know where to look, you can get some decent stuff.
