Hmmmmm.... I AM missing the abject look of MINDLESS HORROR and FEAR on the hobbit-like faces of the hikers... but that being said, I can take some pleasure in knowing that their sunny little happy hike will very shortly ERUPT into a mish-mash of MAYHEM! Heh heh! IMPENDING MAYHEM vote ;)

I suspect that the photographer was using a modern digital camera, or at least one with 'auto-focus'. And since the bull is centrally located in the composition he got priority for the focus algorythmn. Or maybe this was all put together in Photoshop?
