try giving the gems a 1 pix outline (dark purple color), place it under the gem, then gaussian blur it very low, then adjust the opacity. you can nudge the shadow downwards a few px to comply with main lighting. this should give the gems the feel that the

looks better, still a bit floating tho, instead of the outline, this might work better, make a selection of the gem, fill a new layer with dark purple, put it below the gem, nudge it a few px downwards, play with gaussian blur. anyway, its a good chop, an
