i'm not the type of person who would really memorize the song titles and do some research on the artists but the bands i really like are:

descendents, against me, rise against

2007 is coming to a close, and what a year it was for music. What are some of your favorite albums of the year. Can be done in ranking form or just a numberless list.

And remember, it doesn't matter what you like, it's why you like it. Very Happy

As for me:

1. Animal Collective - "Strawberry Jam" - This album is probably Animal Collective's most commercial album to date but that doesn't mean that they don't have their unique blend of strangeness. The songs are poppy and inventive and always upbeat. If you haven't heard any music by them before, this is a great intro album.

Best Song: For Reverend Green http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhHQukKXxCw

2. Okkervil River - "The Stage Names" Arguably my favorite band currently making albums. Will Sheff can write lyrics better than anyone in the business. Unlike previous albums, although the lyrics deal with some pretty serious subjects, the music is nearly always pure energetic rock. I love every single track on this album. Again, this is a great Okkervil entry album, but their masterpiece is still "Black Sheep Boy."

Best Song: Unless It's Kicks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHkTABTJklE

3. Justice - "Cross" This is the most infectious album of the year, hands down, whether you like dance music or not. With top notch production, invention, musicality, and dancability, don't miss this album. I dislike most dance music so for this to make my top 3 albums of the year means something.

Best Song: (maybe) D.A.N.C.E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fo_QVq2lGMs

Other notable albums:

A.A. Bondy - "American Hearts" - Nice folk-blues rock.

Le Loup - "The Throne Of The Third Heaven Of The Nations' Millennium General Assembly" - Crazy title, crazy-good album.

Vampire Weekend - "Vampire Weekend" - Crazy mix between pop-rock and classical.

There are many more, but it would take too long to mention them all. Great year for music.

Yeah Freebirth, Animal Collective are really good aren't they......very unique, quirky sound.

A few of my faves for 2007

Cinematic Orchestra: Ma Fleur
They're incapable of writing a crappy album. This is the score to a film in your mind.....a departure from the hip-hop jazzy"Everyday"(one of my all time fave albums) but that's ok....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjjc59FgUpg

SoulSavers
: It's not how far you fall, it's the way you land.
Mark Lanegan on vocals.....nuff said. Cool
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AUN_MMHmP8

Arcade Fire
: Neon Bible ( I know this is on Claf's list...easy)
What can ya say about this album, other than GREAT!!!
Neon Bible live in an elevator!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjxef8AfVQg

Nine Inch Nails
: Year Zero
Easily one of my favorites for the year. A great conceptual album of a doom filled future. One of Reznor's best works in a while.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEmrU8UNF64

Underworld: Oblivion Bells
Ok, so it is'nt as good or inspired as "Second Toughest..." or "Beaucoup Fish" and yes Emerson is gone, but the trademark sound is still intact and that's what always lured me in to them me.....intelligent......texturally sound..... urban observations......one of the best of their genre.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGe5f5CbXcU

...like I said ...just a few

Maybe I have to pay more attention to the last NIN & Underworld album. I kinda took a break of NIN for a while... maybe because of kids around & becoming a tired father made me listening only soft music. Hey BC! I listened a bit Oblivion Bells and I wasn't sure about if it's a good buy. I thought some parts was interesting but other maybe too close to house or dance music. Is it the kind of "more you listen to it more you like" album?

I just realized that I was late most of time about cds shopping this year, I mostly bought last year stuff. But the 2007 albums are absolutely great!! Very Happy

Now, my 5 stars! Cool

Really no doubt, Arcade Fire in first place.
It's a masterpiece. Also easily best show of the year.

The Besnard Lakes. The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse.
It's an album I discovered last weeks. Amazingly good. Some influences from Pink Floyd, The Beach Boys, Sigur Ros & intense & deep like Arcade Fire... but very different. It's another great Montréal band!! Surprised

Great song: And You Lied To Me...
http://www.last.fm/music/The+Besnard+Lakes/_/and+you+lied+to+me
Nice vid...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMOyBHIGjnY

The Cinematic Orchestra.

Just good enough to listen to few times a week.

Joseph Arthur. Let's Just Be.
Excellent as usual!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdiOoB1WLJs

And finally Hakon Kornstad with his Single Engine album.
The most creative saxophonist I heard for a while. Unique!

You can listen the album here...

If you like the sound of their previous (A Hundred Days Off) album... then this one is a "shoe-in". It doesn't sound much different than AHDO tho. I don't think that it's a diverse enough sounding album to be a "grow on you after a few listens" album. What you hear is what you get with this one and somehow that doesn't bother me with Underworld's sound. If you're hooked to their "old" (and yes, better) sound then this one's prolly not gonna, as a whole, be interesting enough to buy......in that case, just MP3 it.

I like that, quite a bit.Yes very intense sounding. Something bout their sound also reminds me a bit of "Low"....maby it's the vocal harmonies on "And You Lied To Me"...hmm.......good music.
Yep...Montréal sure has produced alot of great music over the years!
Here's another great Montréal band (I'm sure you've heard of) that put out another really good album for 2007.
Stars : In Our Bedroom After The War
