I'd be happy to make a basic layer example file when I get the time...along with a short version of interface basics that will speed up the learning process.

And when using the burn tool fill a new layer with 50% gray and set to overlay. that way you'll burn but not give youre original layer scorch marks. thanks to Jerry717(i think) for that tip.
