The following photos were shot 2 years ago about the same time of the year. My old job was outdoor & trekking-reporter for a small austrian lifestyle-magazine. I visited the roof of the austrian alps by a two-days-hike with nightcamp in a sea-level of 3000 meters.

ascent starting at about 1400 meters sealevel in the austrian region of "Osttirol" (East-Tyrol) - passing pastures with milk-cows and farms 100s of years old:

in a sealevel of 3.000 nightcamp in a typical hut, where food and stuff is transportet by helicopter:

next morning last ascent to the peak thats name I have forgot Embarassed at a sealevel of 3200 meters with a great view to the peaks of "Grossglockner" (austria tallest with about 3800 meters) and "Großvenediger" (3670 meters).

The view to the South shows the "Dolomiten", already Italian territory:

The descent was difficult because there were large snow-fields that had to be crossed. What you cannot see on this pic is, that there were 200 meters below on the left was a rapid river with huge rocks in - a certain death in case of slipping off Confused

this hike ended at the "Umbalfälle" (Umbal-Falls), heart of the National Monument "Hohe Tauern".

Hubby took this picture at work this week. He said they were 1 to 2 days old, the placenta was still there. Mommy did NOT like him being around so he took his pics quickly and left.

yello_piggy was out there again, and brought you some impressions and some interesting historical facts. Yesterday, I was hiking south of Vienna, at the "Hohe Wand" (transl. High Wall). Its a hotspot for all climbing-fans in and around Vienna.

In WW2, the place on the following foto was used for a huge flak-gun of the nazis. From this point they tried to protect a town called "Wiener Neustadt" which was an important military base and aeroplane-production-site, and so prime target for the bombers of the allied troops.

Next foto: In the background, behind the dark hills, you can see the mentioned town which is about 30 kilometers away.

And of corse there was wonderful nature too.
