Chicken, my favorite Spanish classical guitarist would have to be Al Di Meola, this guy is so fast and clean, and his music is top notch for sure, get anything from him, I'm sure you won't be disappointed Wink

Yes! I'm very interested to know a good one too.
I'm not crazy about artists like DiMeola & De Lucia. I was impressed by their performances a long time ago. Elegant Gypsy was the first jazz record I bought in 77. Now, I prefer something smart, wild, cool, relax + SLOW. Once I saw an absolutely amazing great spanish guitarist on TV playing solo but I just never heard his name... Sad

I know those guys are old school Claf, but I can't think of anyone offhand that really stands out, last year,
I was in this little local Spanish restaurant having lunch, maybe 20 people in there eating, and they had this guitar player, this guy knocked my socks off, I never got his name but I couldn't believe the talent this guy had, maybe I'll catch him again, I eat there a lot Confused

Check out Tomatito and his discography http://www.tomatito.com/
This guy is hot.He was "Camarón de la Isla's" (arguably the best flamenco singer ever) main guitar player for years before Camaron's untimely death 1992. http://www.camarondelaisla.org/index-english.htm.
Tomatito plays flamenco (and was a pioneer of the Nuevo flamenco of the 70's along with Paco de Lucia),however he has explored other facets of the spanish guitar and freely fussions flamenco with jazz (latin jazz) and classical as well. Here are a couple of excerpts from his bio...In 2000,the album Spain, a compilation of TOMATITO’s work with Michel Camilo was released. It won a Latin Grammy for best Latin-Jazz recording. Together they played Carnegie Hall during the New York JVC Jazz Festival and went on to do a stint at the prestigious Blue Note Jazz Clubs in New York, Tokyo and Osaka. TOMATITO also collected another Grammy for best flamenco recording for the live album Paris 1987 on which he played for Camarón de la Isla.... 2005 began for TOMATITO with a sell-out concert at Carnegie Hall, New York in the company of the legendary Cantaor Enrique Morente. The AGUADULCE tour continued with performances at Barcelona’s Guitar Festival, Nuits de la Guitare de Patrimonio and the Antwerp Rivierenhof. His first visit to Denmark for a concert at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art was followed by his return to London, this time at the Barbican Centre and then the North Sea Jazz festival’s last edition at The Hague. He was especially honoured to participate in the Peace Festival 2005 – Beyond DMZ in Korea in August 2005....
I hope this helps in your quest, chicken.

Here's an exceptionally sweet Paco de Lucia number called Chiquito (written in 1982) and played in duo with John McLaughlin's masterful virtuosity.John and Paco both play the spanish guitar (nylon strings) here,as opposed to other concerts they played together where John plays the acoustic guitar (metal strings). It really is a richer sound with nylon strings. Also you can clearly see and compare their different right hand playing styles (John-pick and Paco-fingers) in this wonderfully melodic composition.Pay special attention from roughly min: 4:30 to min:7:00.Paco plays an incredible solo followed by an amazing duet then a tradeoff of virtuosity with John, culminating in an excepionally slick 10 second lick by Paco at 6:42 to 6:52.
