Wow. I don't think I've ever looked at an entry while not logged in since
the last update...over a year ago.
The banner ads below the entries along with the image rating form below it look really bad. It's way too much--if I were a visitor I wouldn't bother to stay--in no uncertain terms--it looks like a garbage site.I would not bother to stay and look around.
I never participated at w1k because it looked like a mess like that.
If you're gonna put banner ads right there in the middle of content,
which I think is incredibly poor taste unless you're a news site, then the ratings seriously need to go.
I would bet good money that this site is inspiring less than half the number of people to try out this site simply because of this breech of etiquette. The fact that PSc did not put Google ads in your face like that was a huge player in it's growth over the last few years.
If clicks are such an important part of this sites base revenue, then that banner belongs at the top 3/4 inches of the page like every successful site that advertises on the net.
If space is in such short supply, why not widen the pages a little...
look at every other successful site--w1k, Google, they stretch to fit the screen. Even with the window set small as can be, w1k is around 250 pixels wider than PSC, no one complains.
You can't have it both ways. You can't make the site look like it's highest priority is ad cliks and cater to people with screens set to 680 width. Suggest in faq that this site is best seen at so&so resolution,
and move that banner.
Please take my advice..I offer it with a little extra advice that will immediately increase clicks enough to make up for any possible loss in clicks by moving the banner---just set the google search default to web instead of psc, bam.
Please don't take my search advice without moving the banner.

PS...I'd also have a great deal more respect fior this site if one of those Google ad boxes on the side of the page were replaced with an ad leading to PSC paraphernalia. It's nothing to set up a better cafepress shop, better as in better choices, a small link to Helen's Gordonk stuffed plushies,
and when that link turns profitable for her & PSc,she could ad some things,
a psc plushie pillow, custom plushies of user's socks.
NEXT LEVEL! NEXT LEVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd also suggest adding forums to the RSS feeds.
Actually as a separate RSS feed from the contests.

AS IF!

Seriously people--nobody looks at the news that often--post it in forums and ditch the newsy space wasting link and page. Like anybody saw Procs news for t-shirts that shoulda been an ad on contest pages.

HA! What a coincidence--Gref just set up one for the news section--kinda pointless since we have such little news, but neat. http://photoshopcontest.com/news/psc-news/2029/news-rss.html

hmmph..I dunno
annajon @ 1:27 pm reply w/ quote (popup)
Where do you have to push a link to get this rss feed?
ScionShade @ 1:24 pm reply w/ quote (popup)
Puts a folder for the site in your bookmarks and updates a fresh link for changed pages--the rss feed we have now i keep the folder of on my bookmark bar...so it's a dropdown menu of the contests that are linked the home page, and it's always current.
annajon @ 1:22 pm reply w/ quote (popup)
perhaps, I have never heard of Rss feed, what does it do?
ScionShade @ 1:15 pm reply w/ quote (popup)
Am i the only person that uses the RSS feed here?
