I was watching a program on Belgium television tonight, called "Man bites Dog", about real people in normal situations that make you smile or make you think.

Today the cameraman went by in some homes of elderly people (in their 70's) and asked them, had they ever eaten anything extra-ordinary. No they had not, they said. Would they try some foreign food, maybe? Some Italian food perhaps?

One elderly couple found the number of a pizza delivery and ordered a pizza and a single old pensioner tried his hands on cooking spagetti for the first time in his life. It was good, they said. But, the married man said: "My wife is a better cook then the Italians!"

And then I realised, actually it may not be such a common thing, cosmopolitan cooking. It may just be the way you were brought up or how daring you are.

So, here are the questions:

1. Where do you live.
2. Have you lived here all your life.
3. What is your favorite local food.
4. What is your favorite foreign food.
And.....
5. What was the worst thing you ever had to eat.
6. What would be your ultimate wish - to eat at least one time in your life.

1. Where do you live?
Montréal, Québec, Canada.
2. Have you lived here all your life?
Yes!
3. What is your favorite local food?
No idea! There's so many foreigners here ... I'm confused & don't really know anymore what we can still call local food.
4. What is your favorite foreign food?
Hida beef I ate at Takayama. Far away the best beef I ever tasted (never tried Kobe beef but I heard it's enough similar).
And I maybe can consider my wife like a foreigner (she's Japanese) ... so everything she can cook. She's doing the best salmon, the best pork chops, the best tofu meals, best salads etc etc ...

5. What was the worst thing you ever had to eat?
My mom's grey soup... that's the way we called it (me + sisters + brothers). She's such a bad cook. Her grey soup was just the worst. Laughing
Also around 80% of US restaurants I went.
Shocked
6. What would be your ultimate wish - to eat at least one time in your life?
If I think like digitalpharaoh, I will say Laetitia Casta. Wink

1. Where do you live.
Wisconsin
2. Have you lived here all your life.
No. Born in Idaho, moved to California at 15, moved to Wisconsin at 23.
3. What is your favorite local food.
Bratwurst. Technically it's German but they're a big deal here in Wisconsin. Otherwise cheese curds. SQUEAK!
4. What is your favorite foreign food.
Hmmmm.... Chinese? Maybe sushi? The US culinary menu is pretty well made from food around the world (the tame stuff anyway). We have a local mexican restaurant that cooks authentic style. Very tasty.
5. What was the worst thing you ever had to eat.
Calamari. It was so chewy I thought I was eating rubber bands. I'm sure there's good calamari somewhere but the stuff I had was nasty. It was so bad I haven't risked it again.
6. What would be your ultimate wish - to eat at least one time in your life.
I'm not much of a picky eater so it's hard for me to answer this one. I can't think of anything that I'd really want to try that I haven't tried. But I am still looking for the ultimate steak and/or smoked ribs.

Edit: POUTINE! Can't believe I forgot about POUTINE! Sage and Claf pointed it out to me a few years ago. Had a hankerin' for it ever since but can't make it to Canada (long story).

1. Where do you live:
London, England.

2. Have you lived here all your life:
Yes

3. What is your favorite local food:
Hmmmm..Not really applicable. If by local you mean English then you cant beat a roast.

4. What is your favorite foreign food:
If the Primer rib with au ju at the red rock casino in Las Vegas counts as "foreign".... then that's the winner Very Happy yummmm

5. What was the worst thing you ever had to eat:
Well apart from the few times I've given celery another "chance"... I once tried an astrimgent variety of persimmon and it was outrageously unpalatable. It's hard to describe how bad it was. It was bizarre and like some kind of negative force in my mouth. I have a very sensitive palette so it just killed me. Think of that feeling when you get soap in your mouth and times it by 100 and remove the fragrance.

6. What would be your ultimate wish - to eat at least one time in your life:
I wont say Winona Ryder...

Erm... It;s totally un-PC but I' suppose it would be to eat some exotic and rare animal. Roast Bald Eagle maybe Very Happy

PS...the thread title is just wrong ?!?!
