I've got a problem with Indesign cs2. I've searched the internet for an answer to this but having poor luck/bad results. I'm recreating a simple business card. I've scanned the graphic and imported it into indesign. There is knock out type on the top of the card with a burgundy-ish block which the type sits in. The type at the bottom of the card is the exact same burgundy-ish color, but when I print it, it seems to be screened. I'm positive this is not an optical illusion. I've read that there may be a transparency issue somewhere due to the graphic imported, I printed without the graphic, same problem with the screened looking text. One work-around I did find was to convert the text on the bottom to outlines. I did and the color now matches perfectly, but the text has gotten bolder and doesn't print as crisply as it should. If anybody can help me with this problem it is greatly appreciated. I've never really encountered a problem like this before. The surprises in the printing industry are infinite.

It seems to be a font issue. Is the font post script?

yeah my mac identifies it as a Postscipt Type 1 outline font.

The font might be corrupted where it is conflicting with the printer.

Can you write the type you need in Illustrator and import as a vector which would keep it clean?

You have Pre-Flight?

It may be a font conflict. If you have a font manager, make sure you have both the screen and printer font.

Tried it and got "fuzzy" type on my printout. It's small type at 8 pt. I'm 99.9% sure it's not a font issue as I've used numerous fonts to test this including system fonts. I'll keep plugging away at it and see what happens. Thanks for the input and I'll let you know what happens...if anything.

ok. I just found out that this problem is printer specific as I'm having no problems on my other printers in the shop here. And it probably is the .1% that I was unsure about with the fonts. I have a feeling something is getting lost in translation from my computer to the print driver. I've actually found a workaround by doing a simple copy/paste into photoshop as a vector object and then importing the PSD file into my template in indesign. No fuzzy type, no color difference. Thanks again for your input.
