Wadsup guys (and girls)

How do i default the erasor tool to always erase background? I normally have to select the background erasor tool, erase some background, then re-select the ERASER tool which will then do what i want and delete background!!!

I use CS2.

i try to delete but all i get is deletion through to the background...

so then i select the "background eraser"

Erase a tiny piece of the image

reselect the ERASER tool

and then YAY!!!! the Erasor actually erases!

MY POINT IS THAT I ALWAYS WANT TO CUT OUT OBJECTS TO PASTE THEM INTO BACKGROUNDS. THE ERASOR TOOL SEEMS TO HAVE A "DOUBLE FUNCTION" IN THAT IT WILL ERASE TO BACKGROUND.... OR ERASE THE BACKGROUND. I WOULD LIKE TO ERASE THE BACKGROUND WITHOUT HAVING TO USE THE BACKGROUND ERASER TO INSTRUCT THE ERASER TO ERASE THE BACKGROUND.

Maybe i'm making a stink for something which i only have to do once per project and doesnt really bother me too much anyway? LOL!

use magic eraser on a small area then go back to normal eraser

you program's behaviour is weird, it should erase the first time around! maybe reset the preferences?
As quickly as you can after starting Photoshop (don't wait for the the splash screen), press and hold <Alt><Control><Shift>

see if that fixes it

on a side note, you should be using the pen tool to cut out objects!

wow - the pen tool is weird! Never really use it...

All it did was create a "new shape" on top of the object.... then what?

The pen tool is tricky to get the hang of, but well worth persevering with. It's the cleanest way to cut out!

so hyperthetically, i can save the path for lets say,,,, a postbox. and if i ever had to cut out a post box again,,,, just go to that PATH and apply it to the new image.

Or in other words,,,, using a path to cut out a CAR, i can save that selection path and next time use it (but edit it to fit a new car shape) to cut out a different car?

oh crap - i see you cant save a PATH file the same way that you could save a "texture" or pattern file.
