I prefer the current narrow, tall format, since I use >200 pix for a bookmark sidebar, leaving only ~1020 for this page. At this width, the wide, short format will require a sideways scroll rather than a vertical scroll. Thought to be rather gauche in web designer land.

great... I can turn my monitor back over... this site is currently primed for the 90 degree flat screen turn... er uh, Portrait, but Landscape would be good.

swap the image to the center, keep the threads and calendars to the sides.

Not sure how the site looks on a typical mobile phone,
but if you have a Windows Mobile phone you should definitely look into Skyfire. Though it takes more time, it's hardly any different from the desktop version.

I haven't tried it, but my guess is that Opera Mini for the blackberry would work much the same way.
