I imagine that some good images will be coming out soon, they have tons of data that they need to go through, lots of peeps all over the world were watching, I'm waiting to see what Hubble caught of the impact.

does noone consider the concept of crashing into our satellite a little dumb? I think nasa knows from a LONG time that there's water on the moon, they had to find the least expensive way to prove it to the general public, and that's what they did. just my opinion.

The whole point of finding water on the moon is for base construction feasibility. If there's water (be it ice or water content in the soil/rocks itself) then there's sustainable source of water for long-term manned missions.

The water would be extracted for drinking, sanitation, experiments, electrolyzing into hydrogen and oxygen, etc.

For all the worries about a relatively miniscule rocket impacting the moon; well things much bigger have obviously hit it. The rocket's impact is about as damaging to the moon and/or the moon's orbit as the bugs are that hit a semi's windshield.

Supa's right... this is probably the least expensive way to prove, or disprove, the existence of water. Oh and if there's water on the moon then it opens up the possibility of water on other apparently barren celestial bodies.

It cost NASA $50,000 per/lb, to bring anything to the moon, so if they can leave just 1 gallon of water behind, that would save another moon mission over $400,000, that is just one aspect of finding water on the moon, besides, moonwater is some good stuff... Laughing it's better than RedBull!

"follow the water" is the motto for those seeking other life in space.
The Moon mission is just a stepping stone.... I see it as connect the dots.
WHY?
1. is the water there just like ours?
2. is there enough to sustain life on the moon for when we can't live on this rock.
3. will this water cure cancer or give you eternal life.
4. what else is there besides water.

for just a few.

RANT Twisted Evil

do you like the internet,tv, iphone, blackberry, car, plane. microwave.........
It is because of people not only thinking way outside the box, but having the guts and convictions to carry them out that you have these things.

AND....... If you had access to all that cool shit you would have done the same thing.

When I was a kid (a FAIRLY LONG TIME AGO Rolling Eyes) I was ADDICTED to the NASA space programs. I followed Gemini, Mercury, Apollo, the first batch of SHUTTLES, like I was a lonely housewife hooked on Oprah.

It is funny, but this stuff still interests me but I do feel a bit more CONSERVATIVE when it comes to the crazy budgets that this stuff eats up. I'd feel better if I knew we were putting a balanced effort into our WorldWideAttention OUTWARD and INWARD.

And I gotta admit it: the GUY in me LOVES the idea of smashing ANYTHING into ANYTHING ELSE. Twisted Evil So I'm kinda sad I didn't see the coverage of this thing crunching into ol' Luna.

But the lover in me likes the idea of giving free backrubs to everyone on earth.

See? I'm a COMPLEX dude! Wink Laughing
