Its much more personal if you know who you are trying to help out or just giving them a hard time.

When you know the author,
You learn who is interested in help.
You learn who is vote stacking.
You learn who you can joke with and who you cant.
You learn who takes the contests serious.
etc..

My opinion, leave vote totals visible. I think it would affect SOME people in the way they vote.

jmh

I preferred open posting and voting for a number of reasons, mainly it that is was self auditing. People were generally more at ease discussing daily contests, critiquing others work and weeding out questionable aliases. The “testing” area was a perfect compliment to that system of voting, not to mention some of the funniest work could be found there.

However I think your compromise has merit. Open voter and remark identities would be an excellent gesture to the “old system” although I think it would only be worthwhile if the owner was truly hidden along with hosting url’s.

There are people both new and old who for a number of reasons post under multiple screen names or aliases. In fact there has been some work lately (even winning post’s) that I simply won’t vote for because I am not convinced they are an actual “person”, but rather an alumni member undergoing some type of soulful transformation or better a yet a new member looking to stack votes for a future contest.

My point is the old system of open voting and discussion went a long way to prevent that type of fraud, as it rooted out aliases and other dubious conduct generally the day a contest opened. The compromise you suggest would be a good step in that direction.

BTW if you are still offering Beta Testing I would love to try it.
Leaving the vote totals out would be just like the head to heads.

i actually think hiding the number of votes would make it more interesting. but there would be a lot of whoring, just like it is now
