When I get more time, I'd like to add more color to it. More yard-work to do now.

I also upped resolution, played with auto correct then Shadow/highlight,manual contrast, Vibrance.
Made a duplicate of layer set to soft light then filter highpass.
merged those layers then used a little unsharp mask.

I will try to do patch work on flaws later

I've done thousands of these. In this method, I use the levels feature and adjust reds blues and greens to conform to the levels waveform better, eyeballing what looks good. Then, when I come close, I hit okay and then hit auto color to see if PS can improve on what I did, which sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.
Tell the photographer to use a flash next time. Laughing

Bigger scan.
Stay away from the "Auto Adjust" tools. Something like that needs manual attention to curves, levels and such.

Like they said - get a bigger better scan - 300 dpi, 16-bit color if possible.

watch CSI, they seem to have a bigger bag of tricks, you can probably zoom in on the reflection in great-grandma's glasses and see the face of the photographer

Once you do that, you can look in the reflection of the lens, and most likely come up with a higher res image than you began with. Idk why I didn't think of that sooner.

Howdy BS! Great shot to have in your family archives! Cool!

Well, some of you have done better at this, but I wanted to see what could be done at my end. (good practice trying to do this on a wee-resolution file like this!)

I think your family found my retouching amusing, though... just look at their faces. They're CRACKING UP!! Laughing
