for your education:
a bolster is double width pillow, when a unmarried couple were forced to share a bed due to lack of room the bolster was laid between them the length of the bed so there was no inappropriate touching, if the young man got a bit randy and tried to cross over into the female side of the bed this was known as "getting the leg over" sound familiar???
