The daughter got a new laptop with built-in camera but we're having trouble activating it. Even the internet doesn't have helpful info about it. It's an Acer.

Any suggestions?

Going out for awhile...will check back later.

oh...and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Very Happy

Just turn it on and point at the subject.

Oh. Sorry! Embarassed That's for a MAC. Wink

-------

Have you got the camera to work by itself yet? If not, do what Splodge sez.

Or are you trying to get it to work with a internet connection thang like SKYPE or EyeSeeU? In that case you may need to check those guys for HELP tips from their websites.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE!!!! And, seriously, congrats on your daughter's new laptop - I hope she gets CS4 into it REAL fast! Very Happy

Go to Acer.com to make sure you have the latest drivers. The ones that are on your installation disc may be OLD versions. Plus windows SUCKS at finding the right drivers for anything. They love the MS versions of drivers instead of the manufactures version. VISTA sucks all around...drivers or not...well it does unless you call it MOJAVE. Laughing

This video may help....if not they have dozens more...just scroll down.

PARENTAL WARNING: Now after getting the cam to work. If you come into her room and she is UNWRAPPING her boyfriends present a.k.a. (stripping on cam).... Shocked ...remember that the warranty may not cover "Smashed against her skull" as a DEFECT. Cool Hey, i have Kids...of which 2 are teenage daughters...i don't put NOTHING past what they will do. Wink

Acer model and Operating system would be handy info Eve! Very Happy
If it's anything like my new dell, it probably opens with its own Acer application.....like a 'webcam center' or something. If you're on Vista, any updated drivers should come through on Windows Update. You could still check even if it's XP.
Device manager should tell you the make/model of the cam.

a quick way to tell is if you use msn live IM or yahoo IM go to the tools-audio_video setup. it will first check your speakers then microphone then camera.

My wife just got an Acer with the cam also and without adding software, I had to go to "My Computer" and click on the camera icon. Then I loaded the Messenger software and it works fine on there. The Acer "One" for $300 bucks, couldnt pass it up for Christmas!
