My voting varies. I've got three types of votes I hand out. Advanced, Beginner, and Story. I rarely view big, but when I do, it's purely for admiration. I don't ever view big to nit-pick imperfections. I can usually tell quite quickly from the regular pages how much work was put into a piece. Usually when something looks like it took awhile to do, I'll view big, then I'm deciding if I like it enough to add to favorites.
My 3 groups of voting:
Advanced - I don't vote for all of the chops I considered to be advanced in skill. Doing so would make my votes have less impact. There might be 10 advanced entries (in my judgement) I might vote for my favorite 5.
Story - I love images that tell a story, so if I like the story it tells, it gets a vote, even if the chop isn't the most advanced.
Beginner - There's a lot of people just getting started with Photoshop. There's nothing more heartbreaking than learning to do something basic, enter it in a contest, then getting zero votes for it. The entry is obviously not going to win the contest, so I might vote for it for moral support. To show that I've noticed the user improving, or done something creative and new to them. Hopefully I can leave a comment to encourage the continued use and practice of Photoshop.
I sometimes vote for a 4th group. The artsy looking chops that have a technique that I find interesting.
