Hi all. It's no secret I am an avid crafter, and my newest kick is recycling shopping bags into fun totes and handbags.

The problem is, the stores around here that I frequent only have white or grey bags, which I literally have hundreds of.

I am looking for any generic plastic grocery type bags in any color other than white or grey. Walmart used to use bright blue, I've seen yellow (from Best Buy maybe?)

ANY colored bags would be awesome.

Are you like me? Do you save them because you hate to throw them in a landfill? Here's a way to recycle them. They can be put in a simple envelope or if you have quantity, a box that would weigh very little, and I'd be willing to paypal you for your postage.

A great way to recycle those bags you have been hoarding for no real reason!!

PM me if you have any, I'd really like some variety!!

And for those crafty folks who want to know what the heck I am doing with them exactly, you can google "plarn" or visit http://www.myrecycledbags.com where I got my inspiration from.

Thanks!!!

Delia

So these are macrame bags? or crochet? I imagine you need deeply colored bags for images. I can send some yellows, and a few blacks. Would that be useful?

I crochet them, Doug... I'll send you a PM with a mailing addy. Let me know if you need postage!

I appreciate it!

And any color really works well. The bags are cut into strips and crocheted into new bags. The color doesn't necessarily need to be a deep tone.

Thank you!!

I do use a big hook... It is a "P" but I have heard a Q will work well too. I tried an N and felt it was too small. (Though as I am thinking of it, cutting the strips more narrow would probably solve that problem.....)

You take a bunch of plastic shopping bags....cut them to hell and back...or strips...and then weave them into a Bigger-stronger plastic BAG that you are going to carry SHOPPING......
scratch ...You know.. Idea ..i bet a WOMAN came up with this idea. Confused A man would have just stuck one bag into the other for strenth and been done with it. Laughing
I thought using them for the bedroom and bathroom trash cans was called RECYCLING... Doh!

Around here Bilo uses light tan...Walley World change from Blue to White and back every other week...and Dollar General bags are yellow. Not much variety but if you need them...i can save them. Wink

Have you recyclers seen this?
check it out, a tutorial on fusing the zillions of bags you've got into more and
stronger bags:
http://etsylabs.blogspot.com/2007/05/long-overdue-fusing-plastic-bag.html

Seems this would be a lot faster than the cutting and crochet method! Very Happy
