With all the talk about the front page redesign, lets have a think about showing a bit more of our stuff.
Lets give visitors something to tweak their interest and click on.

How about;
1. Today at a glance. Today's leading entries.
2. Recent Winning Entries.
3. Recent Prize Winners. Rather than waste space with avatars/prize icons, lets give them extra thumbs/entries to click on.
4. Other open contests
5. Hall of fame? How about cycling some of the wonderful entries from our galleries through the front page.

In short, lets give visitors a look at some of our stuff!

We really could lose a bit of text heavy space wasting from the front page.
Lose the advantage calendar, I don't think we need news headlines on the front page....lets face it there never is any.

Thumbs, Thumbs and more thumbs is what we need.

Used trey's model as a guide here. Ignore the colour, lets think about what BEST DISPLAYS OUR WORK.

Liking it, surely the show off part
Draws attention to what's going on in here (and isn't that what a home page is all about). Great to attract people

lets face it, our current front page (for a photoshop website!) has one image. Yesterday's winner. One little thumb for the last prize winner, one silly prize icon and seven avatars.
The thing I posted above has 15 clickable images. Hell there's even room beside the open contests to throw in a h2h image.

Doesn't this show off our stuff a bit better??

Looks great! More thumbnails. How about putting the 1 year, 2 years and 3 years ago winners in the hall of fame section?

Great idea Abe!
More Thumbs!
Even this old page had 13 clickable images!

I'm starting to think we dont even need avatars on the front page. They just waste space.

I like the concept, but can you make one in white background? Maybe it will seem a little less overwhelming then. Sorry... old woman with too little sleep talking now.

Embarassed

As I said already. Just ignore the colour, I just used Trey's template.
I am only concerned with the content at this point!
It's not about colour, it's about giving people a look at our stuff and something to grab their attention.

and no more avatars on the frontpage is fine by me, it scares me every time I have to look at mine, it seems presumptious somehow, to be labeled as one of the seven best.

But you could try to enter Splodges so many years ago images on the front page, like the today one, two and three years ago, that will allow for most of the images to show up... I think, remembering the reupdating I had to do with my first 10 images.....

The only thing I (for myself) don't wanna see in the homepage is the 'today's leading entries' section. It's giving advantage to some to be on the front page while the contest is ongoing. Some voters don't even want to see the standing (to be not affected) until they casted their votes.

@ abe and ron
I suppose it's just as easy to randomly cycle entries from the current comp.
It still provides images of interest for visitors to click on.....
