About the misspelling in the name? I'd have to agree.

Az, you really might want to reconsider that. It's one thing if you're misspelling a word in such a way that it makes another real word that people know the meaning to (like making a pun). But I think in the case of "altared", it just looks like a mistake. Or, it looks like your business involves religion or weddings.

You have such a short time to get your customers' attention and make a good impression... you don't want them to be immediately confused by your name (which is not the same thing as being memorable in a good way)—or think that you can't spell (they won't trust you).

Another random thing— note that "AP" is very widely known as "Associated Press". So you may want to be sparing in using the initials alone, since they already have such a well-known meaning.

Completely agree with these statements!!!

Yeah, Thanks to all the input I received... I'm in the process of re-branding.
Will let you guys know what I come up with. (I might keep the steaming turd, though...)

Thanks for everyone's help! (Even you Marx-Man!)

Marx, it looks like my biggest mistake was asking you to clarify what you said.

1.) You never mentioned graduated block, you said gradient. You also never said posterized and didn't mention color reduction until the very end. I'm trying to learn these things and I can't learn things from what you "meant".

2.) I didn't mistake shade for colour. You never mentioned shades. But anyway, I was asking about the "3 or less including black and white" part. I know that's what you "said", just wasn't sure if that's what you "meant". I wasn't sure if that meant black and white were included in the 3 colors.

3.) Or... trying to learn more about this stuff so that I can better help my sister with a logo for her new business and for my own general knowledge.

Yea you made three mistakes there beefhead.

1.) Mistaking graduated block shades for a smooth colour gradient. Also that when I said that "I adjusted a gradient" it meant that it was a gradient until I "posterized" it to 3 graduated block shades.

2.) Thinking that a shade is a different colour.

3.) Trying to catch Marx-Man out.

I know you THINK you're doing fine with your current logo, blue... But think about how many more clients you can bring through the door with a new logo...

Ok everyone... the company name I've decided on is:

<....drumroll.....>

n8 Code Solutions. The domain name is n8code.com.
I've been tossing it around for a few days now and didn't like it at first, but it's kinda stuck with me... So if you get some time over the next day or so, can you throw some ideas my way on the logo?

It can be:
n8
n-8
<n:8>
n:8
etc.

Id really like to keep the lowercase 'n' unless something just works better in a particular design with uppercase.

To all those who provided me input on the first logo and then critiques on the different names, THANK YOU!

Now get back ta work and make me a logo! Razz Wink
I'll post a few ideas that I've had over the coming looong weekend.

Sorry to dredge up the thread but after reading it I had a few questions and comments.

1. I'm no designer but Marx's examples look like shit to me. They hearken back to the dark ages of computing when screens could only show 16 colors. They just look dated and shitty to me. Also the "brought from a pixel" example doesn't appear that you even read Az's original specs. You kept focusing on the "red" when the original intent was to emphasize "Altered". Now, before you respond Marx, just know that A) It's just my personal, non-professional, opinion and B) I just don't give a shit what you think anymore and would never hire you anyway.

2. Az n:8 is cool but what's it mean? n:8 as in "innate" or n:8 as in "Nate"?

3. What was the final outcome of your logo? It's been almost two months and inquiring mind wants to know. Laughing
