Are you using "Save for Web & Devices" to save it? If not...you should. *!*

Yes, SAVE FOR WEB & DEVICES will help a lot.

ALSO: In your Photoshop Preferences make sure you have BICUBIC SHARPER set in your "general" section.

This is a good setting to leave on PERMANENTLY thumright

OKAY, here is one way to do your Avatar From Artwork thing (after you set your preferences as above):

1) Make a copy of your image you want to use

2) FLATTEN image to one layer

3) Use CROP tool and HOLD DOWN YOUR SHIFT KEY as you use it - this will keep it a perfect SQUARE shape.

4) Crop you image to how you'd like it to look in the Avatar

5) Go to IMAGE => RESIZE

6) NOTE: Make sure RESAMPLE is NOT checked

7) Go up to pixels at top of dialogue box and enter 75 (you should see the other dimension go to 75 as well if you've cropped correctly

Cool Go to FILTERS and SHARPEN and choose SMART SHARPEN

9) Enter in about 40 % and 0.3 pixels and hit okay.

10) Go to FILE => SAVE FOR WEB AND DEVICES

11) Set to JPEG an put QUALITY at around 70~75%

12) Set CONVERT TO sRGB

13) Hit OK and you should have a relatively sharp wee avatar of your image ready for uploading to PSC.

Smile

(It looks like a lot but once you do it once or twice it is very easy) Wink

Cheers!

P.S. Do NOT touch that RED BUTTON on the right side or YOU'LL KILL US ALL!!! Shocked

Good to know Rein. I only have CS on a Mac. I don't have that option in the prefs.

This is what I have. Is it right or should it be set to Bicubic Sharper...... Confused

I'm learning here, so be kind. Laughing I really have no clue. Confused

I WILL be kind, TJ - but in this case it isn't EASY. Razz

Look at the setting TWO BELOW the setting you are indicating. See it?

I'm sure you do NOW! Laughing

salut Very Happy

(little story here: I've been learning LOGIC STUDIO 9 for the last few weeks here - a BIG audio / studio program that is at least as deep for sound as Photoshop is deep for images. There was one little thing that was driving me CRAZY for two weeks - I KNEW it had to be able to do this ONE THING I NEEDED and it just would NOT do it. And I GOOGLED and YouTUBED and ForumLurked and did EVERYTHING I COULD THINK OF, (I've even been through the 1,300 page manual a couple times already!) but I could NOT get it to do my BIDDING. Huh..

Then, one day (I think it was a rare sunny day if memory serves my rightly...) after I'd totally given up and started putting that MooseBoyz song together I tripped over a apparently totally UNRELATED website and there was a one paragraph blurb on what I wanted. One button to push and one window to open. Done. Doh! Well - this isn't the first time I've had a Doh! working on these hi-tech apps, and I'm POSITIVE it will not be the LAST Doh! I suffer through. Even after a decade with Photoshop I still trade tricks with other pro CHoppers and that just makes me laugh (and drink).

Don't sweat it - like I tell my wife that is back to college now: If you don't say "Man I'm feeling STUPID right now" at least once a day you probably AIN'T LEARNING MUCH! Very Happy

- end of story - thanks for reading - you may now return to your regularly scheduled day.
