The problem with the base question is there is no one, simple answer. There are probably as many reasons why people move on as there are people moving on. Everyone's life has their own set of pressures interacting upon them and some will leave for this set of reasons, some for that. I moved on for a couple of years, but came back because I still love the place.
It would be great to have a lot of these old-timers back, I agree. But its real life that is the culprit here. That always interferes.
So for a year and a half (in your case) this place was so great. Cool. There are plenty of newer members who are really cool interesting and tallented... i can't think of any but i am sure there are
