in a way... sucks. Why did I bother spending all that money going to college to learn clone stamp and blending techniques now that Cartoon Contractor's dog can take my job

ExACTLY! For those of us who bill out by the hour, we will make less money because of this. And, more sadly, every dog and it's owner will get a pirated copy of CS5 for their Windows XP and they will "FIX" their images for "FREE".

*sigh*

This is how the world works. I should stop bitchin about it and, instead, go write a bitchy song about it! Razz Twisted Evil

Y'all are kinda missing my point.

With info like that Utoob movie above, ALL my clients now know I can hit a button (or train my dog to do it) and get the job done in 10 seconds.

This leads to them thinking

A) hmmm... this won't cost as much now because it will only take GraphicPerson 10 seconds.

B) hmmmm... for the cost of a couple graphics projects I could OWN that button.

That's more to what I'm ranting about here.

Don't get me wrong: the GEEK in me LOVES this shit. The Artist-Trying-To-Survive is a little LESS in love with it.

Well, they still won't EVER know how to put it all together - composition, aesthetics, layout, proper fonts, color, etc. - and what will actually make a compelling, professional looking finished product.

If they are OK with schlocky BFLs, Comic Sans and so much copy you can't 'see' anything, fine. However Rein, you have a great eye and can turn a boring image into one with impact, PLUS you're a real looker, and Canadian to boot. No worries.

Extending these two points... Wouldn't that mean that you can then leverage the economies of scale approach? You can do more jobs than previous.

(yeah I know that there has to be more jobs out there first but let's not dwell on negatives.) Laughing

Jasper, not to knock your logic, but quality work doesn't seem to matter to the great unwashed, even when they should know better. I made a profession presentation to the board of directors of the citys Art Council for design and production of a web site for them and they decided to go with a high school kid. And the inevitable happened. He left for college and their (horribly designed) site became a museum.
