Ah remember the Amiga it was far ahead of it's time but Commodore didn't market it enough. Sigh! I was Amigan a few times over, but when software writers for it evaporated with no promise of anything new it fell by the way side. Yet there are some still using them. Or so I've heard. Shocked Shocked

I had an Amiga 500 in high school. Sweet graphics on that machine. I remember reading somewhere that the CGI for "The Titanic" was rendered on a bank of Amigas.

A friend of mine had a Commie64 in high school. He wrote his own word processor software so he could type and print his homework rather than hand write it. He had too much time on his hands apparently. Laughing

Nope. True story.
Quote:
Commodore Amiga History

In the early eighties the home computer market was exploding. Dozens of different computers tried to succeed. Among them were famous names such as Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad (aka Schneider) and Dragon.

When these classic systems got too old (technically speaking) a new generation of home computers were fighting their way into many a kid's room. Famous machines as Atari ST and Acorn Archimedes and (of course) AMIGA 1000 were known all over the world. The Atari was used for all kinds of MIDI applications while the AMIGA was used for Video and games.

At this time the PC was too expensive for private use (and not as powerful). At home Atari and AMIGA were fighting for customers. This battle was lost by Atari after several years because they were not able to push their system to the newest level of technology without losing compatibility. In the meantime the AMIGA was well known as a video computer and was used in lots of TV-Series (Robocop, Babylon 5, Seaquest) and cinema pre-productions (Jurassic Park, Titanic).

Back in The Day, I almost got an Amiga, but due to my personal curse of Musical Interests, I instead went for the less graphically powerful, but musically "ready for prime time" player: the Atari ST.

Regarding this "new" AMIGA: I think it is a neat thing but something about it feels MADE IN RALPH's BASEMENT... I think the All Black version looks more solid. And their website feels like it was designed and built in the 80's. Perhaps they are really milking that angle? I'm curious how much this thing will cost, as the new MAC MINI's are serious kick-ass for not too many dollars.
