You make it sound sooo exciting..... I can't freaking wait ... 2 weeks of rain, bored kids & more rain..... bring it on.... I'm English.... I CAN TAKE IT!!!
I'm obviously being sarcastic & am more excited at visiting my folks on the way back & introducing the kids to them ... nervous times!!!!
Ok, I'll be serious... Scotland wouldn't be my first choice of holiday but it's where we're going, I'm grateful to be able to take holidays & who cares where we go as long as we have fun
Maybe soon I'll get to Malaysia, The Caribbean, or Prague even......

There's a lot to see there. California is wonderful!
Are you renting a car and want to drive all around?
If it is the case, there's some marvelous National Parks (Death Valley, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Redwood...),
and of course the Pacific coast.
I think 4 days at Vegas is a lot.
Bah... it depends if you like loosing your money in casinos?
I went there... 1 day is enough to see all the casinos. The 3 other days, you're better to go to Grand Canyon & Death Valley.

Vegas we stayed for 1 week, which was enough for us, we hired a car and drove out the Grand Canyon (South Rim) and also Bryce Canyon.
We spent days looking around the hotels and if you are thinking of seeing one of the shows i can recommend Cirque Du Soleil at the MGM Grand, the show is called 'KA' and its the best show i've ever seen (Book early for a good seat).
Yosemite National Park is an amazing place which you just have to try and get to.
My favourite city was San Fransisco, its has a nice feel to it and the people are really friendly.
LA is ok, Hollywood still has a bit of glitz to it but it has seen better days, but you still have to visit it.
Enjoy your holiday

Sandiego sea world is good and so is Disney Land.
A sat nav is a must if you haven't organised that with the car.
In LA you will find a car a must for getting around, but in Sanfransisco its better to take the trams to get around.
One thing we did do was to buy a day pass for the train/buses and made our way down to Santa Monica Beach, there we hired bicycles and went all along the front up to venice beach.
Dont forget to have blueberry pancakes for breakfast
Enjoy yourself

You have to see one of the shows in Las Vegas. I loved watching the Blue Man Group. But you should buy the tickets at least 2 weeks early for most of the shows, they sell out fast, and if you try to see one on the spur of the moment, you'll have to stand in a standby line in case people happen to not show up who had tickets, or else you'll end up at a cheap show... but I also loved a cheap show. I think it was called American Superstars, where impersonators performed on stage like a star packed concert. It felt like I was really watching Ricky Martin, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Charlie Daniels. I had a blast.
If you can get Cirque Du Soleil tickets, they are spendy, but should be an awesome show, do it! I could never get tickets far enough in advance. You'll have a blast. Each Casino is like stepping into a different country. All the Casinos on the strip have elaborate themes. My favorite 2 casinos were the Hilton and the Luxor. I loved the buffet at the Hilton. Don't go to a buffet if it costs less than $10, you end up with cheap food. The higher priced buffets offer excellent food. Enjoy!
