Just had an idea...!

I was especially pleased with a chop experiment... I left a comment (TIP) on the entry to advise how I did this... this type of info coming from the really good choppers (not me) would be really useful for the less than perfect choppers (like me).

Does not have to be for every little detail, but would be cool for unexpected or unintended brilliance. Helps me remember what I did for future chops too... memory like a sieve! If this has already been done, just remember I am relatively new... any advice is always appreciated.

OK I am sure the good choppers will say the advice is very rudimentary... but for new choppers, this could lead to new ideas... and is particularly useful when the tip is located beside the picture it relates to, because although the tutorials are useful, they are a little long, complex, and it is easy to forget they are there.

If you want to see the tip & entry, it is NC 17... I cant tell you which one... so find it!

I dont see why not... I rarely look at closed contests so tips after the fact would be as useless as your comment. But hey thanks for the input! Sure on a prize contest, anonymous, or other special entry I would agree... but no harm, no foul!

It's pretty much an (unwritten) rule not to talk about active contests in the public forum.

You still have much to learn, young Padawan.

OK thanks... like I said Im still fairly new at this...

Now that was a useful reply... Intelligent, direct, clear, useful... not snarky!

Unwritten rules are "unwritten" for a reason, but I am not one to buck a popular trend... unless it sucks! Perhaps the good choppers are just scared of their reign ending or their power being usurped! (What power!?!)

Besides Im not talking about putting the tips in the FORUM, I am simply suggesting that choppers could leave comments under the chop entry...

I think that this is a great IDEA Shark.

Simply remove your entry link and discussion of said open contest and I think you're all good Wink

as for choppers here... MOST are willing to help w/o other motives being involved.

You can contact any of them via PM and they would be more than happy to help you with techniques and whatnots.

Cheers

The best tip I ever received here was from FootFungas on how to dodge & burn on a new layer in order to add Highlights & Shadows to an existing chop.

New layer fill with 50% Gray
Set it to either Hard or Soft light

Then use the dodge & burn tools to create highlight & shadow w/o messing with the original image Smile

1. Shadows are not always BLACK!!!
2. Lines are not always STRAIGHT!

And many many more from a lot of choppers here!

Thanks so much guys Bow Hug

PS: When I started on PSC I only knew I had to work with layers... but hardly how? Laughing

Just a thought... the tip box would provide constraints to the advice offered.

The entry form also answers another Forum question I saw regarding giving credit for other peoples work... rather than adding the entire address of the the cut, or making some obscure reference to where it might be found, the address could be put into the externals box which would then be displayed as a simple link button under the entry... interested people could click link and be taken to the source in a new tab.

My personal opinion of this however, and based on professional experience is... to sue someone for use of protected works, the plaintiff must prove that the defendant profited financially from the use of the work... the profit becomes the amount which can be sued for... please sue someone for chopping a picture they found in a domain which is clearly an open source (The Internet) and made no profit off of... the judge would either laugh or be annoyed that his time had been wasted for such a frivolous case and berate the plaintiff... I have seen this happen. I am also an artist so I do understand the desire to give and receive credit where it is due... which is important, so for those who wish to... the externals box would be an easy option... I am no programmer, but could easily code the instructions for this myself... but please dont ask!

Shark, What if you use 10 outside sources? Most people who site sources put all of them in a single .jpg then upload that to a photo hosting site like photobucket or imageshack. You can then add the html code to your authors notes in one clickable link.

http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/165365/cheetah-woods.html

another example this has the PSD & Outsides in the Authors notes.
