I wanted to share this link with everyone, a friend of mine at work showed it to me the other day and I found it both fascinating and frustrating all at the same time. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Side note : I DID post my Monday entry before this thread showed up. What I am saying doesn't make any sense now, but it will in three days.

Also, on the same subject : http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2011/01/is-the-banksy-identity-auction-on-ebay-for-real.html

Glad you enjoyed it! To me and as Banksy said in the movie, I would encourage everyone to be artistic but this guy comes along and utilizes other artists to make him money... however, him filming is an art form in its self...so... blah blah blah Smile

As some people noted, it could well be Banksy who created the art himself; there's not much footage of Mr.Brainwash actually making any of the stuff. The art is similar to Banksy's, except more clunky, with generally not much substance in the social comment. I think he makes it look like it is art from a bipolar person, created in a manic phase, where the guy thinks he's a genius, but is in fact creating nothing that hasn't been seen before.

Perhaps, ultimately, Bansky wants to show that if you create enough hype around an artist, anyone could get famous and sell art for a lot of money, because of buyers who only care about speculating and not much about art itself. Certainly some of these 'investors' are hoping that they are actually buying Banksy art and that once the prank is finally revealed, they will be owners of some very valuable assets.

My take on it....
Pretty much just a piece on "buying into the hype".
There was a young guy in the line of people at MBW's "big show" that said "Nobody's done it really the way he's done it" , that gave me a good chuckle.

It was a good and interesting watch but I must admit it was rather trying just listening to Mr. (Two Samiches Short Of A Picnic) Thierry for 90 minutes......and was make'n me wonder if that was just an act. I dont know.

No Oscar for Banksy.

He should have made this version instead. Wink
