Anyone have a guess at how much it takes to keep this place running? I can't afford it, but I've always thought about how nice it would be if someone who participated also owned the site.

That's fine. I don't have any problem with you personally, but when I put some time and consideration into an OP just to have it ignored so you can say your ideas too... It gets under my skin because that's how threads get hijacked. I'm glad you have ideas too, but I started this conversation to talk about my idea. If you can convince me that my idea sucks, great. I'm open to that, and at that time we can talk about your ideas. That's how a respectful, productive conversation works.

The flagship product of this site is the main contest. I doubt people are no longer participating in the main contest just because there aren't enough H2H contests, or aren't enough tutorials. More likely is that people aren't participating in the main contest because there's something wrong with the main contest.

Having 25 votes wasn't a big problem when there were 50 images to choose from. It only became a problem after participation dropped off, so that idea, while it is a problem now, isn't the cause of the problem, but it is a multiplier.

Cool, I see you point and you are right, I should have contributed to your opinion, without hijacking your post.
I guess I wouldn't like that either.
I first concidered making a new topic about this, but I don't think it would look good when the frontpage is full with topics about how to improve PSC Smile

But then they would become corrupted and manipulate the site so they win every contest they enter. Fake accounts, seizing abandoned profiles for votes, sources that play to their strengths, arbitrary disqualification of competing entries. Or maybe (yes, it definitely is) that's crazy paranoia.

That's because you weren't able to control my thoughts, as I am wearing my tin foil hat.

PotHed. I said it in the other bunny thread...
I think its good that you got this out in the open... Do I think its the main reason this site is going downhill? No.

I think most of the big choppers left for several reasons...
Major ones being not enough time to fully participate due to real life/work and
the big one... too much bitching/bickering all the effing time...

Me? I'm not a top chopper, but I try to participate in the dailies (when I've got the time)... But between coaching 2 Soccer teams, Being Co-Leader for my Sons Cubscout pack and WORK not to mention normal family time... It doesn't leave me with that much time to chop every day like I used to.

as for your complaint about seeing the same types of sources over and over... I tend to agree BUT

Either A) contact me or Kittie or Eve or SOMEONE and we'll submit your photos you'd like to see done...
OR
B) SAY what type of photos you'd like to see as source photos and allow the fine advantage members of this site to try to realize those for you...

Most of us do own good high quality cameras.... We should be able to provide good quality sources for the masses to chop.

Hell, when I can't find a good outside source, the first thing I do is have someone pose for me, or I set up my own props...

Finally option C) STFUAC what's given to you... This place goes in cycles... Yeah, there aren't 50 entries each and every day... but those days are gone, I doubt anything will ever bring back that type of competition again... not saying PSC shouldn't strive for it... just saying LIFE gets in the way... bitching about it, isn't going to bring it back... participating and submitting good quality/imaginative entries in the contests, will force other people to up their game as well... Thus bringing the level of competition UP, thus bringing in more people... more competition... a vicious cycle in the right direction...

Back on topic:
My suggestion for those who 'submit' and 'approve' photos
It's out in the open and the peoples are tired of seeing flowers, statues, old houses and cars... so lets try to be more creative people in our submissions.... and mods, try to be less approving of our submissions if you know we've chopped the same thing 1000 times...

and I do also agree, JMH used to chop when he owned the site. It was nice to see more participation from the man behind the curtain.

back to being a smartass...

It's never been the same since he sold it. He was one of the founders and gave a shit about the place and the people, not like the owners we've had after him that seem to buy it in the hope they can make some advertising revenue and just leave the place to run itself. Bastards! Evil or Very Mad
