Not silly at all. I really do enjoy the benefits of the magic wand whenever applicable, but I really like that magnetic lasso for chopping complex shapes that are on complex backgrounds.

I feel ya.
I do the majority of my chopping on a MacBook pro and a REALLY old tablet. The original Wacom Blueberry.

had to replace the pen already, but otherwise much better than a touchpad.
I'm actually thinking about upgrading to a bamboo.

Either way you can get a fairly (good) cheap Tablet on Ebay. They're worth every penny.
