Hey, guys--

I got the green light from JMH to add/replace some smileys, here on the board. I've specificially requested that Laughing be replaced with
, and I'd also like Mr. Green to change to
, but I was thinking we could offer him, say, eight brand new ones to supplement what we've got already.

I'm new, though, so I'd like to see what people would like. Rein has already meantioned that he'd like to see a "yuck" smiley. I think it'd be nice to have a star, too.

Other thoughts I have are a hmm,
a hug,
, and maybe a please
.

Please post suggestions, including samples if you have them. I'll be chopping them to match the size and colors of the smileys we've already got. I figure in a week I'll pick eight, and then send 'em to JMH.

Thanks!

personnaly, I hate emoticons...maybe they could be betetr if they were some customized ones for psc.
1: if they were b/w they'd be much better

2: if they were square too

3: they should not be cute

I like the idea of a complete color shift, from yellow to blue or possibly gray. Smile Everybody's got yellow smileys.

Good thinking Cynn, I like all your ideas there. Strangely, I also agree with Ledirlo, but emoticons are a necessary evil when words and tone can so often be misinterpreted.

My feelings are:

This Smile is too close to this Very Happy
The smile emoticon shouldn't show teeth, like the original "have a nice day" smiley.

This Razz looks less like a tongue sticking out and more like someone bleeding from the mouth. Very disturbing. I bet you can do it better.

This Surprised is just a weird mouth-shape.
Keep it circular

What is this Mr. Green meant to mean anyway? Mouse over it and it says "Mr Green". Weird.

You know, it might not be a bad idea to have smileys available in the contest's votes/coments fields.

That's where people can be really sensitive to what people type and a carefully chosen smiley could make the difference between lifelong friends and bitter enemies.

Hmmm?

That may not be such a bad idea really. When language barriers exist, I have found smileys really help to convey feelings and/or meanings where words may be misunderstood. But, then I also worry about them being misused and cluttering up posts. Maybe an actual set limit of 2 or 3 smileys per vote/comment and it wouldn't get out of control.

Terrific feedback, Fugue! Programming smileys into the contest area is over my head, and I am not sure how do-able it is. Hopefully JMH will pop in and check this topic.
