Good thinking Cynn, I like all your ideas there. Strangely, I also agree with Ledirlo, but emoticons are a necessary evil when words and tone can so often be misinterpreted.

My feelings are:

This Smile is too close to this Very Happy
The smile emoticon shouldn't show teeth, like the original "have a nice day" smiley.

This Razz looks less like a tongue sticking out and more like someone bleeding from the mouth. Very disturbing. I bet you can do it better.

This Surprised is just a weird mouth-shape.
Keep it circular

What is this Mr. Green meant to mean anyway? Mouse over it and it says "Mr Green". Weird.

I agree with all of this!!!

I also wonder what this is... Mad ...Is that the angry face?
Here are two angry ones I like from a friend's favorite site...

(sorry if that first one is offensive, bit I think it's funny Very Happy)

Wow!! I didn't even know there was one!
Oh... I got all excited there, but now I've had a good look, it's almost exactly the same, apart from scion's one....

Now where's the smiley to express my lack of emotion......

.... ahh, there is is! Neutral

How about an emoticon that raises one eyebrow à la ReinFugue. For those moments when you are trying to be clever. Neutral

Ok. Right now I'm just looking at color. Here are three blank templates I made.

I think I am going to go with the orange. I know it is not much of a change, but it goes best with the PSC logo.

*Edit: As I'm looking at this post, I'm thinking to myself that it might be fun to use all three. Orange for happy, blue for sad, gray for neutral.

The Dutch will appreciate that. (I think that's why the PSC logo has orange in it in the first place, right chrispis?)

Hey Cynn,

In graphics so small, clarity is going to be important, so contrast will be important. With black expression lines, you're going for a light template colour. For this reason, yellow may be better than orange. Grey could work but it would have to be lightened a lot more. Blue could work but I think it would look better on this site-scheme if you desaturated it some. Hard to tell for sure until you see 'em finished, of course.

...but hey, whatever you do, this is a site full of opinionated artists and you're bound to upset at least some of 'em.

My advice: To be on the safe side, maybe you should leave the full colour- scheme unchanged as much as possible and concentrate on the expressions?

P@u.. er.. I'll take them under advisement?
(I love that first one! It's so Calvin!)

Fugue, relax. I've done lots of smileys, and they'll work in a pretty broad spectrum of colors. Smile

personnaly, I hate emoticons...maybe they could be betetr if they were some customized ones for psc.
1: if they were b/w they'd be much better

2: if they were square too

3: they should not be cute

So basically they'd all be doubly customised for ME! Thanks, led...I didn't know you cared Wink

Square emoticons?
Is that an example of "thinking outside the box", or just "thinking of a box"?

Cynn - okay honey, but don't say I didn't warn ya Wink
