Well sorry if it's not very clear but here is my question :
You're working on a layer [A], you need to change the contrast of it (or anything else : curves, levels) but just the one you're working on, not the others....
So you create an "adjustment" layer. You change the values of the settings... it takes effect on all your layers below the one layer [A] you're working on. Then you click OK and you do the Alt + click in between the adjustment layer and your layer [A] so that the changes are only made on your layer.
Here's my question !!!

Can you directly choose the adjustment layer to take effect only on the layer [A] ?

ok i'm no expert but when i want to only adjust the layer i'm on, i go to image>adjustments and it just works on that layer-i think-hope that helps

hold down the alt key "as" your selectinig your adjustment layer, then check on "Use Previous to Create Clipping Mask"

is that what your trying to do?

Like screwloose said after you click to make an adjustment layer there is a box in the dialog window that says "Use previous layer as a clipping mask" just check that and all the changes will be isolated to the layer you want. I don't think you need to hold down alt though, at least I never do.
