Does anyone use PageMaker7?

If so, have you ever run into an issue with placing TIFF files into the document and having it change the colors on you (brighter version of the same color)?

I have a pagemaker doc that has a green background, I make a TIFF in Photoshop (CMYK, same color information) and go to place it into pagemaker and it doesnt match the background color at all... not on screen, and not when printed.

If I link the Tiff file in an EPS file then place the EPS file into Pagemaker it works fine, but it seems like a should work without the linked EPS, just the Tiff. Its causing me to double the amount of files (though linked).

So i have a TIFF, linked in an eps, linked in the PageMaker file.
Suggestions? (Other than to switch to Quark or InDesign?)

I encounter this issue with PageMaker all the time. RGB images look accurate but print inaccurately, and CMYK images look inaccurate but print accurately. Obviously I go with the latter.

Trust only your color chips. Screens never match the final printout, because printed colors are made of ink and on-screen colors are made of light.

I don't know about PageMaker, but in Quark, when you import a tiff, you can change its colour by changing the colour of the box it's in. That's one property of a tiff that isn't found in an eps. Maybe double-check to see if you have a colour present in the box that's holding your tiff?

The colors match up... the problem was actually the quality of the print.

In an EPS, the photo prints crystal clear... as a TIFF, its pixelated and nasty.

so... any idea what that would be about?

when saving your tiff, what compression are you using? try setting it none if it's not already set that way...use your original psd file to do this.

Do you have to use a tiff? Why not just save it as an .eps in PS then place it in PageMaker?

I tend to only use EPS files if there is a transparency, or if it was an illustrator file...

in any case, thanks everyone for the help. Ed's suggestion to check the printer settings worked... turns out the tiff setting was set to optimized......

OK... try creating a new doc. in PM, import both the eps and the tiff and print that as a test. I just did it to some file I had, and, although the two looked very different on screen, they printed the same.

what's your resolution on the tiff?

also, check your preferences in PM...maybe there's something there that's suppressing your output?

Sage.. yes, the printer settings I had were set to print a low res tiff for proofing...

(but I'm drinking wine. I find that beer bloats me, and I get full before getting a buzz. So that's why I drink wine. It doesn't bloat me, and I get a buzz. Not like a scotch buzz, unless I chase it with a beer, but a buzz nonetheless. A mellow buzz. An I-wanna-be-your-friend buzz. Don't get me wrong, though...I do enjoy a scotch and beer buzz. Especially when I drink wine. But a tequila buzz! Now that's a different hangover. Especially after a scotch and beer and wine buzz. I find that I get thirsty after I drink, so I don't drink anymore than I normally would if you were here and we were partying. Is it still Friday in BC?)
