forgive me if this was talked about already.

It seems that when I updated a pic from a contest, (made a small adjustment and then re-uploaded) it was moved from page 4 to page 6 (default view). Is this intentional or a bug?

If it's intentional, then it kinda stinks because I posted it friday.

Sad

edit: Just heard it was a new rule. Silly me. Laughing Laughing

There was a really good thread about this sometime back, but I don't know if it was before or after the forum hacker. I think the general consensus was that this prevents people from preposting an image right after it shows up on advantage with just a blank pic, thus preserving themselves a place in line and then editing it later to become their entry. Even if someone makes a very small change during the contest, making the pic drop back in the default order reflects the real order of images posted in their FINAL form.

yeah, that would make sense. Wish I had known that before I added a teensy little 1mm shadow. Oh well, live and learn. Wink

I guess the thing to do is post something early and good, but update it on day 3 so you get extra exposure from all those who start viewing from the last page through to first.

Best of both worlds.

I think it's a bit sucky. You used to be able to comment constructively and help someone improve their entry, but now people are reluctant to do that. People used to comment "if you fix this problem I'd vote for it" and they often would. It's good to see people giving advice, and even better to see people taking it and acting on it. This site should encourage people to colaborate and improve their work, not punish people for it. My 2 cents.

Seems like JMH frequently cites the "community is more important than competition" ethos... but then a new rule like this demonstrates the exact reverse.

Should put this new rule in the faq, at least.

Even with what I said, I also have to agree with that statement too Fugue.

The rule is in effect as I was responding to the outcries of many users when we added the edit option. I do often remind that the purpose of this site is more community driven than cometitive and, yes, this goes somewhat against that. Just think of it as a bit of balance offered to the majority of the site users.
