Animated Gif's get more votes when posted by someone who has several aliases that vote for themselves, imo.

Anamated ones, I don't know much about.

on one hand, some animated gifs are very well done and deserve lots of votes.

on the other hand, some mediocre gifs get way more votes than a very good still image.

It's an ongoing controversy and I doubt it will ever change. Confused

Well I use both type's of mediums, and IMHO they are the same. Both require the change/modification of the ogiginal image and in most cases an animated entry will require a lot more work than a still image. Most of the gif's I have posted contain at least 10 different images, then you have the size requirments to contend with, in similar the still image may have up to 20-30 different layers. So both have different outcomes and different appeal but I beleive that they have a place within the contest boundaries.

If what you say is true and they get more votes, then people must like 'em more, so lets get rid of the static images that are holding this site back. I suppose you thought movies were ruined when they brought in the "talkies".

...and what about those anomated images - what do we do about those? ...Not to mention the anemated ones or even the anumated ones.

Fugue:
In June, the Whitney will open the Robert Smithson retro that's been traveling from MOCA east. Several months ago I posted that the Whitney was working on realizing Smithson's Floating Island, and yesterday I found out that they've raised enough money to build the Island and to have the Island floating around Manhattan for a weekend. No word on if there will be a brownstone on it. Huh..

Speaking of Smithson, From the Floor has pictures of how dramatically the water level at Spiral Jetty has risen in the last year. When I was in Utah last fall, several years of drought had driven the Great Salt Lake about 200 yards away from the Jetty. Hmmm

And speaking of Smithson again, the Hirshhorn's Gyrostasis, deemed by the H of H types too delicate to travel for the retro, is on view now in the Bunshaft basement. Smile

Shocked Rob, I think you have me confused with someone else you had this conversation with.... cause I've got no idea what you're on about. Sounds interesting though!

Before we had the 75 Kb limit put on all entries, I had some good responses from my GIF ANI entries.

The truth is you gotta do some serious Photochopping to make a GIFFY work. (look at Splodge's - those things didn't just chop themselves!)

People seem to forget that most (not all) GIFFY anymations are created in ImageReady, an integril part of the Photoshop universe.

In the end, what wins is what wins (I think Yoda said that)

er, I think the actual quote is "Wins what is winning it does!"
