I am trying to create a shape with either the marquee or shapes tool and I cannot get a "clean" edge. Is there a way that you do not see a rough edge around an object?

I am splitting a graphic top/bottom horizontally in a wave cut to use on the top and bottom of a newsletter and the rough edges look awful.

thanks for any help[color=red]

Use the pen tool... it will give you clean lines and more precise cut outs.

I feared that as I am not yet well versed with the pen tool. It is something I will have to work with. Thank you

id make a new image exactly 1/2 the size of that pic and paste as a new layer. Make 2 of those layers so you have 2 halfs and line the 2 halfs up . Once you have 2 halfs and your original pic (thats 3 layers all together) then use the wand and click the top half and then click the original layer while the top 1/2 is highlighted and copy and then same for bottom. Smile hope that helps or i wasnt to confusing hehe good luck !!!

ok.. i have no idea what the hell pit is talking about... but use the pen tool.

just practice, its easy once you learn to use it.

Click and drag to make a curved line, hit Alt-click on the last point you made to change directions sharply.

go to the path tab (window-paths), and choose select path (at the bottom of that window), then go back to your layer, and add a layer mask (or choose select-inverse) and add layer mask.

That will work best for you.
