Hey, I know that i'm really new here, and i really like what you've done with the place, BUT, I have a simple suggestion that would make the whole contest thing way more... well i guess "fair" would be the term...

here's what i was thinking...

since you can only vote if you are a contributer to the contests at least 10 times, why not make it so upon entering a new contest page, the user (once logged in) must then make a choice, either to select "I wish to submit" or "i'm not entering this contest"... upon selecting the first "i wish to submit" choice the user will then upload his/her picture and have the option to upload another for the same contest, if they want they can, if not, they click "i'm done" .. and then, and only then can they see and vote for the pictures that are already submitted by others, AND they cannot sumit another picture after seeing the already submitted creations... IF the user decides to choose "i'm not entering the contest", then that user has, for the duration of this particular contest, forfited their chance to upload a picture, BUT is still free to look at the pics and vote as he/she sees fit...

this would only allow those people who have taken their time to make pictures not to have their ideas "borrowed" by later entries... and would allow for more creative entries.

this is just something that i've noticed since i've been here, and i think it would help if there was some sort of system in place to do that..

Very astute noticing that Wink
This community is based on "community". Although, as you, I would prefer that
images showing the most original ideas, and greatest skills would
always do 'best' in every contest, there are other factors involved.
A. It's great for someone who is trying to advance their skills
to attempt to mimic a chop that they can learn from.
B.It really "IS" that it is up to the "voters" to notice when someone who is a good
chopper is just stealing ideas and just "not" vote for that
person if they feel that that person is getting more reward than they deserve.
It's great that you are 'chiming in'--that's cool, but I wouldn't hold my breath over this idea.
You are very correct in the assumption that at this time there are a couple of very
very good choppers who are waiting till after a contest opens and , quite frankly,
just stealing the best ideas, and amazingly they are getting the votes and sometimes
surpassing the originator of that idea.
I find this most annoying and withhold my votes from these people completely.
Nice to meet ya Very Happy
Be more original than them, put the "work" into your chops and learn to live with what you don't like.
These contests are never absolutely perfect but IMHO PSC is as close as we'll ever get.
Cool

I completely agree with what you are saying, but these people would still be able to practice a particular type of chop, however they just wouldn't be able to submit their creation as a contest entry, and wouldd then have a chance to put their gained knowlage towards future chops

not if it was set up correctly, the ideal way to do this would have people login before viewing any open contests, then the rules that i stated above would apply about choosing wether or not to submit.

my guess would be that there are alot of people who have no knowledge of photoshop, but they like checking out what people can do - without having to log in. and to random people just browsing by, having to log in is, well.... stupid.

HEAR! HEAR!! STUPID!!

You cant really expect the site to shun all the non members. Im sure the contests have something to do with people signing up. They look at the contest images and think, "Golly Gee, this could be a fun way to pass the time".

I dont think it would work the way you suggested at all.

Scion, copycats will forever be a thorn in your side! Smile
