There has been a lot of vote ideas floating around recently. i have been harbouring an idea for some time and was wondering what folks thought.
To stop the "Voting for favourites" or "Biased voting" chops should be posted without the name of the submitting member. Once your vote is cast the artist's name could then appear. The artists name could also appear after the comp is closed.
This. i feel would be a much fairer way to vote.

This idea I agree with. I have never understood why anonymous-author images are such a bad idea.
What happened in the past that makes some members so against that idea?

I think this is a good idea, Jeff.
People who've been on this site for a few months may most likely spot the style of certain choppers anyway.

It's a good idea, the only thing I like about knowing who posts what is the improvement factor. A lot of the time if I see an image from a member that has improved from his last images, then I think that deserves a vote. I know Im one of the few people that uses every vote and tries to look at ever image, but improvement votes are still a good thing.

As I recall, anon posting was stopped for the following reasons:
• Members were unable to discuss, compare, etc, encourage each other and suggest improvements by sharing/showing entries during contests as it was against the anonymity rule;
• The "improvement factor" mentioned earlier. Members voting couldn't assess a post by the standard of the author (eg, if a new or less experienced member posted an entry that was a personal best, noone could see it as such because they didn't know who did it until the contest closed);
• Anonymity can be easily broken anyway by members "cheating" using e-mail or IMs to "vote whore" (now there's a phrase I've not seen for a while! ) - sharing their entry privately and touting for votes from friends and others.
(Ok, so whoring can go on without anonymity too, but at least it's more easily noticeable and it's more of a level playing field, rather than having the "good" members obeying the rules and losing out through being anonymous.)
There may have been other reasons. If so, I'm sure another "oldbie" will come along and add them - if s/he can be bothered! We've been around this subject so many times before...

and how about the idea, that you can choose between anon posting and normal posting...
every person can choose for himself if he wants to be anonym or not...
what do you think?

fair enough hand tool, if folks play fair this wont be a problem. and if, after you vote, and see who it is then you can add your additionl comments.
I feel that it will work. and will eliminate the whore issues. bar a few PM'ers.

Where does this "whoring" take place?
it takes place in private, as in private messages. Everyone knows to do it outright in public can cost votes.
Going anonymous wont change that.
again, I'll say it was tried, it failed. the site lost what some consider to be the "community" feel for many reasons. Such as, what Handtool said about encouragement. It only makes the competitions more competitive and there was just as much strife as not being anonymous.
In the end, what happends is the chop everyone likes the most gets the most votes. Usually it is actually the best chop of the contest. Its that way anonymously or not.
Where you would see the difference is some people might go from 15th place to 12th or worse, others might find out that they just arent as good as they thought.
I hope JMH comes in and squashes this endless discussion again. Im sure at some point, he'll revamp things and its then that he will ask us members what we think. Typically, majority wins when he makes changes.

people who dont kiss butts (like me) have no idea, how many whoring pm's and mails are going around each day. and this would not stop, if voting becomes anonymous, as showcase mentioned. its no problem to send the pic and write "vote for it before my grandmother explodes" or something else. it just seems more objective. I try to vote objective, thats why newbies also get votes for good entries from me, and old foxes sometimes dont get votes for crap. and when I feel undervoted, I can think "ok, thats because I stay away from this butt-kissing" and try to estimate how many votes I had more in case of active whoring. keep fair and sportive!

What I would like to see is less people like Mikey there posting stupid images for no apparent reason other than to be seen.
Unless you're going to add something to the topic or are trying to derail it with wit or confrontation, dont just post to post.
EESH!
