I'm going to buy this camera with my brother, and I wonder if anyone has tried it out.
Just for advice.

If it's horrible, you've got to tell.

Once you have mastered the 350 you can move up to the 20D. Very Happy

And you should really really start saving immediately for a "L" series Canon zoom lense. Or, since they can cost as much as the camera, make sure you can test out and return any lenses before you buy them - some of the "alternate" brand lenses are great and some SUCK!.

Congrats to you and your brother - you are giving yourselves a very nice Santa gift! Smile

Thanks guys,
seems like a popular choice, but on a review it was said that the lens included sucks ass. what do you think, is the author of that review just poor and jealous?

HK can I borrow your new camera, just kidding.
I am looking to upgrade my camera and I am looking at a Olympus 300E. which is about $850 Canadian funds with a 14-45mm lens. For another $200 you get a 40-150mm Lens which goes usually for $350. Of course I will wait until the Christmas madness subsides and try to get a better deal.

There are so many choices that you have to stick with the major companies, Canon Nikon Olympus so not to get what you don't need. Good review on your camera

Yo HEnningMAN (Merry Christmas btw)

The lens that comes with the Canon SLR is a basic shit lens... it is only worth about $100 CAN so what does one expect it to be? Smile

You are buying into a Camera System... and at this point investing in a good camera body. I've used that 18~55 (i think?) lens for about 4 months once I got my 20D (yes, even it comes with that silly lens) and I took some great photos with it. You will only have trouble if you shoot at maximum or minimum f-stop (lens openings). If you have the choice of buying it WITHOUT the lens and can afford to get the 17~85 instead you'll be most likely happy for many a day... but again the 'stock' lens, though very crappy built, still will handle most situations just fine.

There you go... now stop reading this shite and go buy the damned thing already - i WANT to see some nice snowy Norwegian Xmas pictures right away dude!!!!!!!

I don't think I'm sooo professional that I have to get another lens...
have a great christmas, I'll go shoot some snow-pics now with my brothers digital camera.

This man speaks the truth.

However, you can take very fine pictures with the kit lens -- the art is created by the photographer, not the equipment.

However, as Reinman states, the kit lens does have a noticable sweet spot in clarity and contrast in the middle f-stop range, so if you're going for most resolution possible, use those f numbers.

However, don't let that keep you from experimenting with the lowest and highest stops on the lens. It's a great learning experience to experiment. While you're saving money for your "L" lens, experiment with all aspects of the lens that comes with your camera -- large and small aperatures and how they affect your image and other aspects of your camera (like shutter speed). I mean, what do you have to lose? It's not like you're wasting film! Very Happy

Congratulations on your purchase, and be sure to post pics! I bet there are some pretty knowledgable photographers on here that can help if you have problems.

Also, bear in mind that while the "L" lenses are overall much higher in quality -- both physically and optically, they *still* have sweetspots in f-number just like your kit lens (even though the "L" lenses, wide open, are probably as clear as the kit lens at its best aperature.)

Good luck!

As GOATman sez: "Learn to Experiment".

Good advice while you are young. When I "experiment" now people just think I'm a perv (which isn't, unlike AtHeaMo, true!).

Smile
