Hi all,

We have a little problem here... if goeny voted for something i cant! that sucks because we do not have the same opinion and i want to give a vote if i like to.
Now, it's probably the "same ip" rule that keeps me/him from voting.
depends on who voted first.

Is there any way around this?? this sucks.... Sad

Me and rexcross have the same problem!!! Getting another computer won't change anything, because rex has his computer and i have my laptop, but we still have the same problem! It wasn't always like this... it actually changed several months ago. I share your frustration though wendy!

I think you need 2 seperate IP addresses, I think though if you can prove to jmh that you are seperate people (like you obviously are) there must be a way round it by writing some special sexy code or something.

thats what I think anyway.

As like you say wendy, you both have seperate opinions.

wendy. I cannot speak for the rest of the crew... but I did appreciate that you atleast commented on my entry when you couldnt vote. Very Happy

BTW I'm with marco, a special sexy code would do nicely Laughing

you mean when you log out of one account and into the other? that sucks, maybe clearing your cookies after doing your voting may help. I don't know if this site uses cookies to tell if you've voted, but I go to other sites with similar problems, and I can usually solve this by clearing the cookies from that site. Hope this helps

Do you use Dial-up, Cable or DSL? If you disconnect and reconnect you may be able to get a new IP address, unless you have a static IP Address.

I can understand the "restrict votes by IP" rule. The idea is that this would prevent someone from creating multiple aliases and then stacking the deck by voting for a chop from each alias account.

As for a way around the problem that's another story. Cookies won't work because, as Mason pointed out, you can just erase the cookies. Putting in a bypass for people who "prove" the whole 2-in-1 computer would be an administrative nightmare for jmh and the mod crew to maintain.

About the only thing I can think of is tying it to Advantage subscriptions somehow. If someone's voted from the same IP and one of the accounts is an Advantage account then allow ONE other vote from that IP. Otherwise if all accounts from that IP are Advantage accounts then let them all vote. Who'd want to buy Advantage accounts for all their aliases just so they could cheat the vote?

hmm, thats a very unconventional method Tofu, but a very good one. I think that would work fine; and JMH would only have to adjust the code once. I guess it would also tempt users that use the same pc to get Advantage to be able to vote, as well. Good idea, we'll just have to wait and see what JMH says or comes up with.

Option 1 ) Throw Goeny out of the house.

Option 2)

Get dial up as second isp you just leave the LAN connected "all the time", and then "dial up" on the modem when you want to use that connection. Technically both connections will be up when you are "dialed in", but Windows will prefer the "dial up" connection (ignoring the network card connection) for going out anywhere except your local LAN. And then when you want to go back to just DSL, just "hang up" your dialup connection, and you are back to using the network card only.

I guess won't be getting from Goeny(see option1) but we are here to help!

Ok, option a = i dont think that's the best thing to do... tempting but.. neh., not the best thing. So we have to try b whatever it means. Far to difficult for me, i now where the powerswitch is and that's al, so goeny will try that. (right? ... honey? Wink )
