It's exactly these kind of comments, "He is secure enough that he would not need to lash out at someone who called a spade a spade," "The fact that you made them is very telling though," along with your "distasteful to be associated with..." and such that beg for nasty responses. While not overtly hostile, they're clearly meant to demean.

I've always been hot-tempered, and such comments almost always evoke a response from me.
