I'm just wondering what most voters are looking for on this site? I just entered a contest and didn't receive one single vote?? But I see lots of entries that it looks like the artist just took and copied layers and added blures and random pre-set effects? Not wanting to sound bitchy but I spent alot of time on my last entry and not even one single vote. Can someone please clue me in on what seems to work because as of now, it seems like if I just copy the main image and add some random photoshop effects I'll do better than I'm doing now...

The thing with that strange animal entry is you didnt do anything with the source.
The eagle didnt even interact with the source.

I agree with foot fungas.

There's just an eagle lizard head stuck on top of the background...

i'm sure that if you surf through the forums you'll find other such threads to read for your enjoyment or maybe someone else can post the links here.

i'm sure it will bring about another round of beating a dead horse..... Laughing

That's strange you should say that because one image that only had a large head pasted on it with a simple sunglass reflection had 27 votes?? http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/99274/distracted.html
and here is another one with 5 votes that only has a swirl filer??? http://photoshopcontest.com/view-entry/99541/votes.html

I'm not really sure what you mean by interact? The image certainly goes with the source at least as much as some of the other entries that received 15 plus votes. Anyway, just tring to find out what is expected..

Thants for your insight.

bigwater look again.. closer this time....
theres the head, the sunglasses (redone) with a woman and a sign with a shadow done, (chopped into the the source), and the people in the background (source) also chopped into it, color change & blending so that it all looks like it belongs together, so that it becomes a 'theme'. its not just a giant head with a reflection of the source in the sunglasses. Rolling Eyes

the big problem you had, was a late entry. and your iguana-eagle is VERY bright and is more Blue Yellow compared to your red background. (i belive thats what Fungas is getting at with interact or the fact its just the head.. its static. I dont know) but work on trying to blend the two together better... plus yesterday was a 'micose' tribute day, so alot of people spent all their votes very early on in the contest. when the voting opened there was already 30 posts. sorry i was guilty of that too. normally I will save atleast 10 of my votes for the second and third day. if you really care that much about votes, get advantage so you can spend more time on your posts.

the biggest piece of advice i can offer, is go through the old contests, see what gets top votes.... use that as a guide. PM people, ask questions on how to get better, use the tutorials. complaining will only get you into trouble here. learn from what doesnt do well. also remember, just because 'you' like something, doesnt mean that 'everyone' will... been there, done that.
good luck.. now stop chattin, and go chop something! its already 5 hours into todays contest I dont see an entry for you yet.

I just voted for your eagle in the desert picture" some people around here are so cocky and better than thou" they wont even give you an encouragement vote! yet they vote for garbage and call it good for brownie points! Razz Rolling Eyes so get used to it and keep trying untill you get some descent votes" also put some shock value into a picture, blood, sex, demons, explosions, ect... and watch your stat's skyrocket! Laughing You think it's easy to entertain people with a picture these days? Rolling Eyes You've got to kick it up several notches to get noticed! Wink One more thing" pray to the Holy Spirit for idea's and guidance. Cool amen.

Then, do what I and many others do...
Do your best to ignore ANYTHING that mikey types...like its easy to read with all those emoticons and shit anyway.

oh, and incase you get the wrong idea, votes are NOT meant to encourage people. Votes are meant to pick one of the best chops for a given contest. Comments are a good place to start for encouragement and support.

Other than that, stick to it and do as others have said...Review the top chops from the past few month's contests and you'll get an idea of what works and what doesnt.

DAMN IT!! I wasnt gonna get involved in this...now look at what mikey made me do Sad

I think mikey and Showcase both made good points. We do often ignore posts that don't meet our standards. Maybe we all need to make a few more comments of encouragement.

As much as I like getting votes, much more I just like seeing what I can come up with. Usually it's not that great compared to the winners, but I think I am steadily getting better, thanks to the tips and comments of many of the members here.
